Ryback, real name Ryan Reeves, departed from WWE earlier this month after he was sent home in early May following a contract dispute with the company. Ryback spoke about his departure from the company on the debut episode of his podcast, Conversation With The Big Guy.

Ryback said that he was thankful for everything that WWE gave him while he was with the company and how it shaped him into who he is now. Ryback did not agree with them on a business standpoint on a lot of things. Ryback made it clear that he doesn’t live in fear, which led to him doing things his way.

Ryback admitted that he was never the company’s guy and wondered why they put the Intercontinental Championship on him in 2015. After he won the title, he said the company offered him a new contract as his current deal was set to expire in 2016. Ryback explained that he was not happy with the new contract.

Ryback said he didn’t leave the company due to money. Ryback added that he was offered a three-year $1.5 million contract by the company. He noted that there were other things that he was not happy with. Missing out on merchandising opportunities that didn’t plan out and travel expenses. Ryback noted that since he traveled alone, his travel expenses were much higher than a group of wrestlers traveling together.

Ryback said that he had been lied to many times throughout his career about booking as well as other opportunities. Ryback noted that Vince McMahon told him that he would be the number one heel in the company and have the title put on him if he listened to McMahon and read promos that were written for him word for word. Also, Ryback mentioned that the original plans for him at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas at AT&T Stadium was for him to wrestle AJ Styles, with McMahon telling him that he would “squash that little twerp.” Ryback praised Styles for being an incredible worker. Instead of that match taking place, Styles wrestled Chris Jericho, and Ryback wrestled Kalisto on the pre-show for the US Title.

Ryback did not accept WWE’s new offer but instead sent a revised offer to the company. On his last day at TV, Ryback explained that he knew WWE wasn’t going to accept his new offer and felt that they were going to book him badly before he left the company. Ryback said that he told Mark Carano to take him off TV and that he didn’t talk to McMahon on that day because he had been lied to too many times before.
