— ROH sent out the following today…

A World Title opportunity will be on the line when “Survival of the Fittest 2012” takes place on September 22nd in Baltimore. Adam Cole, Michael Elgin & Jay Lethal, have all been entered into the field that will ultimately boil down to a 6-Man Elimination battle to name the contender. Each of these men have competed in the tournament before but only The House of Truth’s Michael Elgin has earned that title opportunity, one he will get at “Glory by Honor XI” in October. As of today another competitor who won it all has put his name into the competition. Entering his 7th tournament, the 2005 SOTF winner, one of two ROH Triple Crown Champions Roderick Strong!

Strong has competed in every “Survival of the Fittest” tournament, save 2010 when he was the reigning champion, and scored his sole victory in 2005 when he defeated Austin Aries. With the most tournament experience of any man on the ROH roster, Strong is certainly a solid bet to run the table but given his current “strike” from the House of Truth, one must wonder if he goes into this one representing only himself or if he will be waving the HoT flag on Martini’s behalf.

“The Messiah of the Backbreaker” Roderick Strong

ROH Title(s) Held:

ROH World Champion (9/11/10 – 3/19/11)

ROH World TV Title (3/31/12 – 6/29/12)

ROH World Tag Champion (w/ Austin Aries; 12/17/05 – 9/16/06)

SOTF History:

2004 – Austin Aries & Roderick Strong defeated John Walters & Josh Daniels in a Qualifying Bout but per the rules of the match only Aries advanced

2005 – Winner after defeating Austin Aries in the Finals

2006 – W/ Homicide lost to Jay & Mark Briscoe in a Qualifying Bout

2007 – Defeated Brent Albright in a Qualifying Bout; Eliminated by Chris Hero in the Finals

2009 – Defeated Rhett Titus in a Qualifying Bout; Eliminated by Tyler Black in the Finals

2011 – Defeated Rhett Titus in a Qualifying Bout; Eliminated by Eddie Edwards in the Finals

With five men now entered into the fray, “Survival of the Fittest 2012” is getting competitive before the first bell has even rang. All of these competitors are viable candidates to take home the future ROH World Title shot, with two of them having already done so in the past. The field is only going to get more competitive as additional names are announced so check back next week right here on ROHWrestling.com as we continue to set the stage for our return to return to Baltimore on September 22nd!
