Who Should Qualify for Money in the Bank? (and Monday Morning Q&A)

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) What was your biggest takeaway, positive or negative, from Night of Champions?

My biggest takeaway of all was this overwhelming sense of “boy, WWE sure is stalling until people hit certain records, aren’t they?”

Now, we pretty much know that the reason everything’s happened in recent months with Bianca Belair’s lack of a direction was because they just wanted to get her to the longest title reign.

Seemingly, that’s happening with Roman Reigns, too. And while a lot of people are harping on the 1000 days, I think this is an indication he’s holding that belt past at least Bruno Sammartino’s 1,237 days, if not also Hulk Hogan’s record of 1,474 days. We know he’s beating Pedro Morales, as that’s only less than a month away. That puts him in the top 5 title reigns ever.

I think Gunther’s beating Honky Tonk Man’s record for the Intercontinental Championship as well, and all signs point to WWE playing around with stalling for time just to make these records happen.

That’s why we have the World Heavyweight Championship—because they know Roman’s keeping the 2 other titles until at least WrestleMania 40, if not WrestleMania 41.

Belair’s loss just made that perfectly transparent to me, along with the tag title situation being their means to eat up another couple months without Roman having to even defend his titles.

2) What was your biggest takeaway, positive or negative, from NXT Battleground?

Outside of the need to crown a new women’s champion because the belt was vacated, this felt like a show that didn’t need to exist. Some of the good stuff could have just happened on a regular episode of NXT, while the other stuff was either not all that fantastic, or just derivative of something we’ve seen before.

For instance, Hayes and Breakker didn’t need to have a rematch. It was fine, sure, but in the grand scheme of things, having their one title match from before was good enough. This didn’t add anything to the overall story or build upon that enough for me to think I NEEDED to see it to get any enhancement. Nothing from The Creed Brothers vs. Gallus felt purposeful. We’ve seen Ivy Nile and Ava Raine interact in the same way, and we’ve seen Gallus beat Brutus and Julius.

So overall, my biggest takeaway was that while the action itself was fine, it was a largely superfluous and unnecessary show that could have just been a Last Man Standing match to main event an episode of NXT, and such.

3) What was your biggest takeaway, positive or negative, from AEW Double or Nothing?

Runner-up bronze medal goes for how annoyed I was at the Wild Thing song playing, but that it ultimately ended up with a great main event. Silver medal goes to Kris Statlander winning the TBS Championship. But the biggest takeaway was that the Four Pillars match was excellent from start to finish.

4) Who would you choose to be in the two Money in the Bank ladder matches now that qualifiers are set to begin?

I would personally book the men’s match to be Bronson Reed, Cody Rhodes, Damian Priest OR Finn Balor OR Dominik Mysterio (but not 2, let alone all 3), and Matt Riddle on Raw, and then SmackDown’s four being AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, LA Knight and Karrion Kross. There’s room, though, to incorporate all sorts of people like Grayson Waller, Cameron Grimes, Santos Escobar or Rey Mysterio, Shinsuke Nakamura, Sheamus, Johnny Gargano, etc. Lots of names to pick from.

For the women, I’d go with Raw’s four being Becky Lynch, Chelsea Green, Raquel Rodriguez and Zoey Stark, and then Bayley, Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair and Zelina Vega. If Flair isn’t back yet for this, swap her out for Michin.

5) Who would you like to see walk out of Raw with the Women’s Tag Team Championship?

Honestly, I’d like to see Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn get added in at the last minute as a surprise, win the titles, unify them with their NXT women’s tag titles, and merge those belts because there’s no need for NXT to have its own set.

However, that’s not going to happen. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler absolutely 100% will win this championship, and I can’t even argue that it isn’t the right call. On Rousey, they’ll potentially actually pay attention to doing something with the titles, even if it does end up just being a continuation of pairing up 2 random singles stars every few months just to have someone for them to beat.
