Match Predictions and Heat Index Anticipation Levels

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Kenny Omega (c) vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

Heat Index = Scorching
Prediction: Adam Page wins.

Thoughts: These guys are going to absolutely kill it. They’ve done so well together in the past and I can’t imagine they won’t be turning it up to an 11 here. This is the time for Page to win the belt. Omega’s had a long enough reign that it doesn’t hurt him to drop it and there’s just too much story with Page winning and not enough to tell the “journey back to another title shot” tale yet again for him to lose. I’m really looking forward to this!

AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (c) vs. Tay Conti

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Britt Baker wins.

Thoughts: I was quite critical of Conti during her NXT days. Then, she came to AEW and consistently improved to the point where I’m a fan of hers and a huge proponent of her getting a title opportunity. But it’s just an opportunity—not a victory. There’s no way she beats Baker, who is simply a bigger deal right now. Rather, Conti’s the latest challenger to fall victim to the Lockjaw. That’s okay, though. Baker needs to beat people and someone like Conti is a viable contender, but not the right choice for champion right now. Down the line, maybe she’ll get that chance to steer the ship. The match itself should be decent, but I’m not expecting it to be worthy of higher than a Lukewarm.

AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FINAL:
Bryan Danielson vs. Miro

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Miro wins.

Thoughts: We’ve seen this before, but now that they’re facing each other in AEW instead of WWE, it can be an entirely different match. With that in mind, I’m much more interested in seeing what “Danielson vs. Miro” is, rather than “Bryan vs. Rusev” again. Obviously, I was looking forward to the match against Jon Moxley, but with Mox entering rehab, that’s far more important. Miro’s a fantastic substitution and probably the best replacement possible to fill the void. As far as the winner goes, it entirely depends on the Omega/Page match. The way I see it, I think Page is winning and Miro is going to get the first shot. However, if the game plan is for Omega to retain, then it’s pretty clear Danielson has to win this and he’ll likely be the one to take the title from Kenny.

MINNEAPOLIS STREET FIGHT:
The Inner Circle vs. Men of the Year and American Top Team

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: The Inner Circle wins.

Thoughts: Making this a No Disqualification match ups the ante. While Dan Lambert’s promos are great, I’m not sold on getting super hyped about a match featuring those guys. Outsiders stepping in the ring are rather hit or miss, but mostly miss. It could be great, or it could be a bit of a wreck, so I’m more toward the middle range on this one. The Inner Circle should snatch the victory, likely by pinning Ethan Page or Scorpio Sky.

AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
The Lucha Bros (c) vs. FTR

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: The Lucha Bros win.

Thoughts: While this match isn’t one of the ones with the strongest builds, I just happen to think it’ll be a damn fine contest. Both teams are great and at the end of the day, sometimes you just want to watch a good wrestling match. We know they’ll deliver in that regard. As far as the winners go, I’d imagine The Lucha Bros retain. FTR could win the titles back, but now doesn’t seem like the time to pull that trigger, instead of going with a new team a little further down the line.

FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH:
Superkliq vs. Christian Cage and Jurassic Express

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Superkliq wins.

Thoughts: I’m a fan of all the participants and we know they have good chemistry together in the ring. While it’s technically yet another redo of things we’ve seen before, the addition of the Falls Count Anywhere stipulation makes things more interesting. I’ve always been a fan of that gimmick and I’m really curious to see what kind of tricks they have ready to pull. Superkliq likely wins because they have more stock, whereas Cage and Jurassic Express winning is just a means to give the babyfaces a victory for the sake of it.

SINGLES MATCH:
CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: CM Punk wins.

Thoughts: For the most part, this feels as though Punk simply has a list of people he wants to work with who he finds interesting, so they’re going with one of those names who isn’t busy elsewhere on the card. Neat, in a general sense that we haven’t seen this, but I don’t think it’s something to go into the hotter territories about. Punk will win and it’ll be generic filler that will be easily forgotten about, but hopefully will suffice for its 10 minutes or so.

SINGLES MATCH:
MJF vs. Darby Allin

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: MJF wins.

Thoughts: I don’t think this will be the best match of the card, nor do I think this is the most engaging feud on the lineup, either. However, MJF can sell anything. He’s done a great job taking this from “Wait, just those two guys again out of nowhere?” in my mind to “Okay, let’s see what they’ve got in store.” It will be midcard filler in a sense, but it’ll still be rock solid, if not great, so what’s there to complain about? I’m hoping MJF wins and keeps his hot streak going, as I want him to be the person to eventually take the title off Page.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Hot

Thoughts: I’m really looking forward to this event. There are a lot of matches that could be awesome and some big things that could go down, like Page winning the title. I won’t be able to watch it live, which I’m sour about, as I’ll be away on my honeymoon, but I might have to sneak a peak in some fashion the day after or so, because this should be a great show!
