PPV EVENT INFORMATION

Date: Sunday, March 5, 2023

Start Time: 7 p.m. ET (pre-show), 8 p.m. ET (main show)

Location: Chase Center in San Francisco, California

MATCH CARD, PREDICTIONS & HEAT INDEX ANTICIPATION LEVELS

(as currently advertised; card is always subject to change)

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 60-MINUTE IRON MAN MATCH:
MJF (c) vs. Bryan Danielson

Heat Index = Scorching
Prediction: MJF wins.

Thoughts: This is going to rock. Danielson’s among the top greats in the ring. MJF is no slouch, either, and my overall favorite performer in AEW. I think they have a great opportunity to plan out some really interesting ways to take this hour and make it a spectacle. That is, of course, so long as they don’t fall into that trap of wanting to recreate the overtime 0-0 draw from WrestleMania 12. I’d rather see people actually score some points, and I think we’ll get that here. Ultimately, through some shenanigans, MJF will manage to be one up on Danielson at the very end and retain.

TEXAS DEATH MATCH:
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Jon Moxley

Heat Index = Scorching
Prediction: Adam Page wins.

Thoughts: This is also going to rock. We know Moxley is down to put himself through far more torture than he needs to. Page is likely signing up for doing some of the same. Since this feud all started with Page getting injured, he ultimately should win this, in my mind. Beating Moxley in a Texas Death Match is a good way to end this with both bloody guys shaking hands with a newfound respect. Then again, if Blackpool Combat Club is going to officially turn heel, having Moxley lose this match and use that as a catalyst to go even crazier could be what goes down, instead of the respect angle. Or maybe Moxley even does something awful to win. But I don’t think that’s the best way to turn him, or the best thing for Page’s trajectory.

AEW WORLD TRIOS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
The Elite (c) vs. The House of Black

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: The Elite wins.

Thoughts: Fundamentally, there isn’t another trios team higher profile than The House of Black to be fighting The Elite right now. The feud itself is lacking for me, and I think they could have waited to do this further down the line and still gotten away with another team challenging instead, but I see the point behind this, too. It is a pay-per-view, after all. You should try to put the biggest matches on there possible. It kind of puts the kibosh on my prediction that House of Black would be the next champions, though. I don’t think The Elite will drop the belts this soon. If it weren’t for 2 of them already holding titles, I would think Blackpool Combat Club could be next in line. Maybe this is all leading to CM Punk and FTR getting together. But maybe I’m wrong and The House of Black will win. In any fashion, this should be a good, albeit probably a little longer than it should be, match.

THREE-WAY TAG TEAM MATCH FOR THE AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP:
Jamie Hayter (c) vs. Ruby Soho vs. Saraya

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Jamie Hayter wins.

Thoughts: Saraya has fallen short for me. I’ve been copying and pasting my “I’m tired of Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, Britt Baker, and Saraya all feuding” for what, a full year now, maybe? It feels like it. Ruby Soho is the key here. I think Hayter has to retain, Soho needs to turn heel out of frustration for coming up short, and we’ll see Soho join up with Saraya and Storm either here or following this. Willow Nightingale balances out the AEW homegrown side and starts feuding with Ruby. As far as this match’s hype in and of itself, I would honestly skip it. I don’t think it will be good.

AEW TNT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Wardlow

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Wardlow wins.

Thoughts: I’m a big fan of both, but I feel like this is a roundabout way to get back to square one. Maybe Tony Khan knew Wardlow was going to take some time off, felt he needed to take the title off him, and that’s all that is happening here, with Wardlow winning it back and going full circle. In fact, I’m convinced that’s the case. Keeping this belt on Wardlow allows him to ignore MJF for the time being, and those two need to be separate with a distinct reason. If Wardlow has his own belt, it makes sense he’s not just going after MJF’s title.

SINGLES MATCH:
Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Ricky Starks wins.

Thoughts: There’s a nagging voice in my head that says this isn’t as simple as it seems. On paper, The Jericho Appreciation Society is banned from ringside. Ricky Starks is the babyface. This should be the end of the feud. Therefore, Starks wins…right? But I can’t help but to think something else is afoot and Jericho will have another plan to allow himself a means to cheat to win, with someone else interfering. But since that’s nowhere near a guarantee, I’ll just say Starks is my prediction. I’m looking forward to it, and I hope Starks gets the best version of Jericho he can get.

FOUR-WAY TAG TEAM MATCH FOR THE AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Gunns (c) vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett vs. Danhausen and Orange Cassidy

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: The Gunns win.

Thoughts: I’m going with the safe bet here that The Gunns didn’t win the belts just to drop them so soon after. However, there is a HUGE part of me that thinks Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett will win the belts, and part of me that thinks The Acclaimed just get them back. I don’t think Orange Cassidy and Danhausen stand much of a chance with OC holding the All-Atlantic Championship. This isn’t a match I’m as excited about as some others, but considering how strong most of this card is, it’s hard to match them. I’m still looking forward to it.

SINGLES MATCH:
Christian Cage vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Jack Perry wins.

Thoughts: Awesome. It’s been a long time since this feud started. The injury put everything on hold. Now, we can finally get the resolution we’ve been looking for. Perry needs to win this, unless they plan on doing a schmoz ending to set up a gimmick match. At the end of the day, Jungle Boy will win this feud, so it’s only a matter of whether or not this is the finale.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Hot

Thoughts: This looks like one hell of a card. Funny enough, the matches have more hype to them and more proper builds than what we might be getting for the majority of WrestleMania. That’s not usually AEW’s modus operandi. Usually, they’re the company throwing the “I don’t know, what about this guy versus this guy?” mentality out there. Since this has something to sink my teeth into, along with a ton of potential for the matches themselves, I’m super looking forward to it.
