An Open Letter to Bryan Danielson

Dear Mr. Danielson:

I recently read that you would consider returning to the indies if WWE does not clear you to return to the ring. As much as I love watching you perform, I am writing this writing this letter to encourage you to put your health first and encourage you to follow the best medical advice you receive.

Let me start by saying how much I’ve enjoyed your work. You’ve been my favorite wrestler since I discovered Ring of Honor a decade or so ago. I have no fonder memories of wrestling than the shows I attended and saw you wrestle on. A selfish part of me would like to see you return to the indies and put on more of those amazing matches.

My concern for your long-term health and well-being outweighs my desire to see you wrestle. I doubt you remember me, but we corresponded many, many years ago on Myspace. You impressed as a principled man who could hold intelligent discussions about issues ranging from literature to the environment, and I think that you can contribute to our world as far more than just a wrestler. Concussions can affect intellect and personality. Yours are worth preserving.

It’s well-documented how much you love wrestling. For someone so dedicated, walking away must be agonizing. But no one can stay in the ring forever. You’ve given so much to wrestling and to the fans, and we appreciate everything you’ve done.

Please, take care of yourself, and think of the lifetime you have left to live.

Sincerely,

Mark Engleson

(and the undersigned — the way an open letter works is, just add your name in comments to sign the letter)
