Does Hell in a Cell Mean Anything to You Anymore? & Monday Morning Q&A

Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some more interaction and discussion in the comments here and I figured a great way of doing that might be to directly pose questions for people to give their thoughts about.

I’d like to keep it simple for now with a potential recurring “Monday Morning Questions” type of deal. It’s the start of a new week, so I’m brainstorming questions based on what happened over the past few days and what is being advertised for what’s to come this week in WWE and AEW.

Let’s test this out and see if there’s legs to the concept. The more people chatting it up in the comments below, the better and the more experimentation we can have with this.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for June 7, 2021. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) Does Hell in a Cell Feel Special Anymore?

No. It hasn’t for a long while. Hell in a Cell used to be a gimmick that felt like the true end to a feud. Over the past decade or so, it’s been used for the start of feuds just because it happens to be that time of the year on the calendar.

Likewise, it used to be more entertaining once the bell rang, too. These days, there isn’t much of a difference between this and a normal steel cage match. You get more bang for your buck in WarGames than Hell in a Cell for brutality, too.

Plus, that red cage is awful. I’m not the only one who thinks that’s kind of an eye sore, am I?

2) Is Alexa Bliss going to win the tag titles with Lilly the puppet down the line? And if so, how will you react to it?

It sure seems like they might be heading in that direction, doesn’t it? I’m nervous about it. After Lana and Ruby Riott were released, we’re down to only one tag team outside of the champions, since it seems like Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are splitting up.

But Alexa Bliss and Lilly are taking on a lot of focus and they’ll need something to do, eventually. Clearly, someone high up in WWE loves that Bliss is The Fiend now and doesn’t even care that she isn’t wrestling. It’s just a means to play around with a new Undertaker, in a way.

Whenever WWE is infatuated with something like this character, they always always always take it places that it probably shouldn’t go. Hornswoggle was the final cruiserweight champion for a long while, for instance. And Mr. McMahon’s fake son. Oh, and the Anonymous Raw General Manager. Because someone thought Hornswoggle was funny.

I think that’s going to happen here. Natalya and Tamina will probably drop the titles to Alexa and Lilly in a few months because “wouldn’t it be funny/great that Bliss and a puppet are champions?!”

Tell that to Braun Strowman and his 10-year-old tag team champion partner Nicholas. Oh wait. You can’t. Braun Strowman got fired.

3) By SummerSlam, will RK-Bro be tag team champions, split and feud with each other, or will they do something else?

RK-Bro, The New Day, Mace and T-Bar, Lucha House Party and The Viking Raiders are fighting to determine the No. 1 contenders to the Raw Tag Team Championship. All of them could theoretically win, but there’s a pecking order.

AJ Styles and Omos had a temporary feud with Elias and Jaxson Ryker which painted the champions as more of the babyfaces. Maybe WWE teased that because they might go down that path with Mace and T-Bar, for instance. I don’t put a lot of stock in that, though. I think that was just for the sake of doing “something” more than any real purpose.

The New Day had their feud. Lucha House Party won’t win the titles, but they can win this match, then lose and stall. The same goes for The Viking Raiders. I think there’s actually a good chance they win this and fight for the belts one or two times at or around Hell in a Cell.

But the ultimate trajectory, in my mind, is that Randy Orton and Matt Riddle do win those tag team titles. I think it happens at Money in the Bank, though, or possibly SummerSlam. I’m 100% sold that there are only two options at SummerSlam: RK-Bro against Styles and Omos, or Riddle against Orton with them having already split.

Maybe they win the belts at Hell in a Cell, split around Money in the Bank and fight at SummerSlam if WWE wants to rush. That could very well be likely.

4) Andrade’s in AEW with Vickie Guerrero as his manager. Yea or nay?

I looooooooooove that Andrade is in AEW. He’s a great performer and this brand will be much better suited for his skill set than floundering in WWE. But I hate that Vickie Guerrero is his manager—at least, seemingly.

Vickie’s too much of a presence. If she comes out and starts doing the “excuse me” stuff, the focus is on her, not Andrade. Sure, he can’t cut as smooth of a promo as MJF, but I say he should just go out there and speak for himself. At the very least, if he would have a manager and mouthpiece that isn’t as much of a scene-stealer, it would be better, like Mark Sterling or Alex Abrahantes.

Of course, what I really want to see is Thea Trinidad and Tommy End join AEW and for Andrade to shack back up with Trinidad. That pairing was just too good to pass up on reuniting.

5) Do you care one bit about contract signing segments or when people have a “face-to-face” confrontation on TV?

WWE is advertising for Monday Night Raw that “The Scottish Warrior and The All Mighty [will] make [their] collision course to WWE Hell in a Cell official”. This means a contract signing.

I hate these. McIntyre won the right to challenge him. The match is happening. This is just a means to get the two to say “next Sunday, remember to buy the event.” We’re not in the era of having to remind people constantly so they don’t forget. You can Google it.

Inevitably, I watch all of these segments for fear that I’m going to miss out on some dialogue exchange or adjustment to the match (like a stipulation being announced), but I only do that because it’s my job to analyze and report. If I were just a fan, I would skip these in a heartbeat. They’re a waste of time.
