Fantasy Booking: WWE WrestleMania 36

Trying to predict anything in life is about 50% skill and 50% luck. Trying to predict what will happen in the WWE is nearly impossible. A roster of 60+ superstars and a year round schedule makes it incredibly difficult to guess what will happen next. Also taking into account any injuries, popularity and backstage pushes/heat. The odds of correctly guessing what the landscape of WWE will look like in a year are slim to none.

With that being said, all wrestling fans have an opinion of which direction WWE should head in. Sometimes logic and business sense are used, others will go with their heart and predict their favorites to succeed and the guys they hate to fail. This “Fantasy Booking” of WrestleMania 36 will be taking into account the following: The current state of WWE. The rumored or apparent push of a superstar, the format, and flow that the showcase of the immortals typically follows.

Also I did not include the pre-show. As we all know they will include meaningless Battle Royals and a Cruiserweight title bout that will be limited to about 10 minutes, with no shot at stealing the show.

And lastly, most of these predictions will be based in reality but there will be a few off the wall predictions and picks to keep it fun and fresh. So without further ado here is the card for WrestleMania 36!

Opening Match: Intercontinental Championship

Ricochet(C) Vs. Aleister Black

These two rookies from NXT have been tearing it up as a tag team since debuting a few months ago and that should continue throughout the year and into in the next WrestleMania. The only difference is they won’t remain a team for long. Both men had single success in NXT, with Ricochet winning the North American championship and Black capturing the NXT championship. By the time next year rolls around, both guys should be solidified in the mid-card scene.

Friends turned enemies is a story as old as time, expect it to be told here between these two great Athletes.

Smackdown Live! Women’s Championship

Asuka (c) Vs. Kairi Sane

A mat classic featuring two Japanese stars clashing at the show of shows. Asuka has been a constant presence in the women’s title picture and expect to see it through the rest of the year. The Empress of Tomorrow is so great inside the ropes, but the fact she isn’t able to cut an actual promo due to her language barrier does not prevent her from success.

Kairi Sane on the other hand has yet to make her main roster debut. Some may say she is long over due. Sane has had a few appearances on the main roster but she hasn’t stuck. Kairi is incredible in the ring as well and WWE could use a fresh feud in women’s division. Obviously this rivalry would have to have an unique build up, as both women do not speak much English. While seeing them feud on the road to WrestleMania would be challenging, it wouldn’t be impossible. The actual communication between the two in the ring could make all the difference.

Roman Reigns Vs. John Cena

This bout would definitely have that big match feel. With Roman winning his battle with Leukemia and making his triumphant return at WrestleMania, Everything is great. The fans love him and his comeback story, there’s no chance it will stay that way forever……yeah, unfortunately nothing lasts forever.

As awesome as it is seeing Roman back, seeing him wear out his welcome wagon is inevitable. Especially if WWE throws him back into the title picture right away. While not seeing him in a title match this year is extremely unlikely, as long he isn’t the only face with a year long title reign, super-man punching every other superstar, things should be all right.

But what to do at the showcase of the immortals? Another title match main event? Another showdown with Brock Lesnar? I think we all would like to see something different. Enter John Cena. John was limited to only an appearance at this years WrestleMania and it would be shocking if he didn’t have a match on next years card. It’s no secret that John is no longer a full-time competitor but he still has many high profile matches left in him. If Cena continues with the “Doctor of Thuganomics ” gimmick then every match he’s in will have a fresh feel to it. Especially with the Big Dog.

Imagine it. Heel Cena vs Face Roman and a crowd split right down the middle.

WWE Unified Tag Team Title Championship

The Revival(C) Vs. The Undisputed Era Vs. The Usos Vs. The Bar

This is predicting that we will see a renaissance in tag team wrestling in the next 300 days or so. With rumors that WWE will be taking tag team wrestling more seriously and the coming attraction that is AEW, it could create a perfect storm for teams in professional wrestling.

WWE seems to be pretty high on the Revival and a storyline seeing Wilder and Dawson Not only win back the RAW tag team titles but invade Smackdown and win the titles there too, is definitely in the realm of possibilities. As for the Usos they will continue being one of the best teams in the business and remain in the spotlight. Same for the Bar. The Undisputed Era should make their debut sometime this year and begin to dominate the brand they land on.

Kofi Kingston Vs. Big E w/ Xavier Woods

Seeing these two names against each other will come off a bit shocking unless you’re a long time fan of wrestling. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and in the WWE that end is usually a back stabbing double turn. The Shield, D-Generation X, and almost every other faction has gone through a break-up and The New Day will be no different. It’s a matter of when, not if.

Seeing The New Day implode will be tough. The brotherhood the three men share is very real behind the scenes. However a high profile match at WrestleMania will be perfect for a personal feud involving all three men. Possible storyline might involve jealousy from Big E and Woods that they still remain in the tag division while Kofi is in the spotlight. Or all the success goes to Kingston’s head, with Woods and Big E getting fed up with the current WWE champion.

Universal Title match

Finn Balor (c) Vs. AJ Styles

Bullet Club Civil War will be on full display in this road to WrestleMania theory.

With Balor, Styles, Gallows, Anderson and Adam Cole all signed to WWE, this storyline should happen eventually. The history that these men share will provide a solid story for months of build-up. Next years Royal Rumble winner will need to be addressed somewhere on this card, and AJ Styles has to be a front runner on anybody’s prediction list. There isn’t much AJ hasn’t accomplished in his career and a Royal Rumble win for the phenomenal one just sounds right.

On the other end of the card is going to be Finn Balor. Quite possibly the most talented man in WWE. Hopefully Balor remains in the main title picture instead of competing for mid-card titles. This feud would also benefit Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, as both men have barely been relevant in the past year. Seeing Gallows and Anderson side with Styles and Adam Cole Pairing up with Balor or even vice versa would be a very entertaining storyline and beneficial to all men involved.

Undertaker and Kane Vs. Braun Strowman and Triple H

This match is more of a “Hey let’s fit some old guys in the card cause it’s WrestleMania” type than anything else.

With Triple H beating Batista in a no holds barred match to continue his in ring career, it would be a smart bet to assume that he will be competing in at least a few more matches and there’s no better place that he likes to compete in than WrestleMania.

Strowman is in big man limbo. This the same thing that plagued the likes of the Big Show through most of his career, too dominant to be in the mid-card and not liked enough to hold a major title. So expect Braun to be somewhere in the middle of the card and no where near the WWE title or Universal.

Most people would say that Undertaker’s in-ring career is over after not having a match at Mania this year, however conflicting reports online are saying that Taker will have a match at the next Saudi Arabia event; likely against Elias. So it would seem that WWE isn’t done squeezing every last drop from the Dead Man just yet. With not much gas left in the tank, working a tag team match might be the best bet to get the most exciting match possible. Possible storyline could see The Brothers of Destruction begin to target Triple H, continuing their feud from last year and the Game forcing Braun to help him out.

RAW Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch(C) Vs. Ronda Rousey

This scenario sees “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey winning the Royal Rumble and continuing the most exciting rivalry of 2019. This years main event was a bit lack luster and did not have a definitive finish, so a part two will be exactly what this story needs.

With both women apart of their own “Four Horsewomen” expect to see each woman with 3 close friends in their corner and a lot of outside interaction. Ronda will be taking some time off for the near future to possibly start a family. That will make her the perfect surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble and if she competes, it’s hard to picture anybody throwing her over the top.

Expect Lynch to remain the unified women’s champion for awhile, but not forever. This scenario has her still in the title picture but only on RAW.

WWE Title Ladder Match

Jeff Hardy (c) Vs. Daniel Bryan

WWE has not featured a one on one ladder match at WrestleMania is nearly 25 years, when Razor Ramon took on Shawn Michaels for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania X. It’s long overdue and with two incredible athletes like Bryan and Hardy, it’s has all the makings of an instant classic.

Going on a limb might be an understatement when picking Jeff Hardy to face Daniel Bryan at the show of shows, however, he still has the ability to fight through injury and be one the most exciting men in the ring despite being 41. And with Jeff’s recent comments about being open to signing with AEW in the future, be on the look out for WWE to offer Jeff a contract extension and for him to experience a push in the coming year.

The planet’s champion Daniel Bryan has been one of the best heels in all of WWE since making the switch last year, so don’t expect that to change anytime soon. The storyline might see Daniel Bryan take out Jeff’s brother Matt and Jeff taking out Bryan’s bodyguard Rowan in retaliation, setting up Hardy to lay out the challenge to Daniel in his favorite style of match.

So there it is! Will any of these matches be on the card? Which one would you want to see the most? What matches would you feature? Let me know in the comments below!
