First Thoughts on NXT TakeOver WarGames 2020 & More Quick Takes

Welcome back to another round of Quick Takes—a post that indulges in the topics that aren’t worth dedicating a full article to, but are still on my mind.

Each week, I try to cram in as many smaller talking points as I can via a speedier process, and I invite you to chime in with your own thoughts about these topics and anything else by keeping the discussion going in the comments below! Drop some more talking points in there for everyone to chat it up about, too!

Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s topics.

WWE ThunderDome Moving to Tropicana Field

WWE ThunderDome will continue in its new home, which has been confirmed to be Tropicana Field for the foreseeable future. Supposedly, the plan is to run every show out of that venue going forward through WrestleMania unless something changes for the worse or better, and WWE is hoping to have fans in attendance for Royal Rumble and Mania in some fashion.

I don’t have a lot of hope that we’ll have the actual feel of a normal event any time soon. With that in mind, the ThunderDome is the next best thing. At least they’re continuing this and if they can make it look even more impressive with this venue, then that’s good.

It is just more of the same, though, until we see something different that makes it more special.

NXT TakeOver WarGames Confirmed

Do they have enough space in the Capitol Wrestling Center to be able to fit two rings with a cage surrounding both?? They must think they can pull it off, so I guess we’ll have to see.

The matches they’ve announced so far make sense. The Undisputed ERA against Pat McAfee’s group is probably going to be awesome. Team Shotzi vs. Team Candice is logical, considering LeRae broke Blackheart’s tank. I’d imagine LeRae teams with Indi Hartwell, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez, based on the last episode. Shotzi likely recruits Ember Moon, Toni Storm and, if she hasn’t moved up to the main roster by then, Rhea Ripley.

I’m down. Now just tell me who Finn Balor is fighting, since he doesn’t appear to have a No. 1 contender established. The same goes for Io Shirai. At least the North American title appears to be a triple threat match with Leon Ruff, Damian Priest and Johnny Gargano. Time to speculate.

Name Changes

Brandi Lauren will now be Skyler Storey. Not too bad. It sounds a little hokey to me and very pornstarish, but then again, when has wrestling not had both those elements crossing over in some fashion?

The real headscratcher, though, is the report that WWE was considering renaming Chelsea Green “Victorious”. Not Chelsea “Victorious” Green (which would have still been dumb) or “Victorious” Chelsea Green, it seems. Supposedly, just VICTORIOUS. That would have been horrendous and killed her character.

Who is she, a member of RETRIBUTION? What’s up with these dumb names?

Edge WrestleMania Plans

Edge vs. Randy Orton to finish that feud, or Edge and Beth Phoenix against Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss. Which do you want?

In my mind, you’ve got to go with the Orton match. The mixed tag team match is a gimmick that seems like a worthwhile backup plan, but it doesn’t revolve around Edge and his return. It’s just something that works on paper at a baseline level. Plus, it can be done another time, like as the immediate feud following WrestleMania, since Wyatt and Edge shouldn’t be competing in the Money in the Bank ladder match.

FTR Tops PWI’s Top 50 Tag Teams List

Quick take? Makes sense. I’d probably go with The Golden Role Models or The Street Profits over them, but hey, it’s not like they picked The Hunt or something.
