Goldberg Spears His Way into Suplex City

Goldberg! Goldberg!…….These are the chants that we have heard for many years and the same ones that will be heard throughout the Pepsi Arena in Denver, CO. for Monday Night Raw. The question is, will this return go over as planned or fall flat on its face like so many have in the past.

From all published reports, it seems to be all but confirmed that Goldberg will make his long awaited return at Survivor Series on Nov. 20, when he faces Brock Lesnar. The circumstances are no different than they were with the return of Sting. If there is a way to promote their Video Game and pad their pockets at the same time you better believe Vince will pull out all the stops. He has shown in the past the ability to look the other way when it comes to past rocky relationships for the good of the business. In this case the money must be more than acceptable as the love shown on both sides in the past has definitely been in withdraw.

Goldberg appeared on ESPN recently to shed light on his return and did his best to explain…..

“I have a 10-year-old boy. I got a wife who has never seen me wrestle. And I got a generation of kids who don’t know who the hell I am except for looking online,” he said. “The biggest thing about being a wrestler — and being Goldberg gave me — was the ability to be a superhero for kids. I want the ability to be that guy again, but there’s a compromise here. To be that guy at 49 years old, do you risk losing your legacy? Is it something that I am going to regret?”

When asked who he would potentially wrestle should he return, to the surprise of no one Goldberg immediately pointed to Lensar, as the man who would hopefully “Be Next.”

“I would be remiss in saying I don’t owe Brock Lesnar a rematch,” explained Goldberg while referring to his victory over Lesnar in his final match at WrestleMania XX. “I was able to prosper and have my hand raised at the first meeting, and I think, if I ever came back, that’d be the match. I would have to work my ass off to get ready for him, but you never say never. I’ve said it for 12 years. Brock’s a different human being. Matter of fact, he’s probably not even a human being. He’s like a superhero alien guy — big, strong, fast and mean. But I don’t know, man. I beat him once.”

We all know how the situation has played out so far with Heyman issuing a challenge and Goldberg making it known he will be on Raw to answer. In the past I would agree with the people who say the surprise element was lost in this whole storyline, but since WWE’s ratings continue to sink like the Titanic, they need to streamline their product as much as possible. The more tweets and Facebook videos created to promote this feud will be more coin in Vince’s pocket.

All in all this return will most likely prove to be no different than that of the Animal Batista. Sure Goldberg will get more of a positive response, but the similar in ring technicalities will be just as obvious. Goldberg was never known for his in-ring prowess and Brock isn’t a spectacle inside the squared circle either. So how do they intend to carry out a prolonged matchup? This is a different animal and garners far more creativity than any of the previous returns or classic matches. It will be interesting to see how both wrestlers play it.

There will be numerous hyped up promos and tons of exciting appearances leading up until Nov. 20th; if Survivors Series is truly the intent. Unfortunately, I just do not see how the match inside the ring will be anymore than a short battle of two monsters with a short list of technical moves. It will be great for a quick ratings punch, but I am having a hard time believing it will leave us all satisfied. Am I wrong?
