If CM Punk Were To Return, Would It Be In ROH Or WWE?

Every once in a while during a WZRtv broadcast, the weekly web show that I do with fellow eWrestlingNews.com writer Ryan Clark, I will get involved in a “spirited debate.”

This past Tuesday night was one of those times.

Passionately, myself and Clark argued back-and-forth on one specific topic: CM Punk.

Basically put, Clark feels that if Punk were to return to the world of wrestling, he would do so in Ring Of Honor. His basic argument is that in ROH, he wouldn’t deal with the crazy WWE schedule, nor would the politics or creative side of things be an issue, as it reportedly was for “The Best in the World” in WWE.

My basic argument was that if Punk were to return, it would be in WWE. My feeling is that if Punk were willing to step back inside the squared circle, and was willing to put his already beaten up body through additional punishment, he would do it in a place where he is at least handsomely compensated for it.

Clark seems to be of the impression that the main factor in Punk’s decision to walk out on WWE was frustration over the way he was booked. Mine is that his body was beaten up, he was tired of the travel, and because of the bad booking, had grown to love what he was doing less and less, thus making the pounding on his body and hectic travel he was dealing with a bigger issue than if he was having fun doing what he was doing.

I just can’t see Punk returning to the world he walked away from, let alone taking more bumps, in a place like Ring Of Honor, where he would be making a considerable amount less than if he were to do so in WWE.

Clark’s take on that is that he has made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life, so if he were to return it would be for the passion and the fun, more so than the dollar figure on his check.

Mine is that having fun would certainly be a factor, in that he wouldn’t return to WWE unless it was to do something he thinks would be good (I.E. – Chris Jericho returning to work with Bray Wyatt recently, whereas he might not have had he been told he was doing Fandango part two) but that money would absolutely play a factor, as wrestling is still a business at the end of the day, and CM Punk is a businessman.

You can check out the debate as part of this week’s edition of WZRtv, which is available below.
