International Wrestling News: Kawato Debuts, Champions Carnival, Stardom



New Japan’s Young Lion, Hirai Kawato made his CMLL debut last night during CMLL Super Viernes. Kawato was competing under the name Kawato-San teaming with Virus & Misterioso Jr. taking on Rey Cometa, Pegasso & Audaz in a losing effort. In addition, CMLL kicked of it’s Increible de Parejas tournament with the first block dominating the show. Ultimo Guerrero & Volador Jr. defeated Mephisto & Mistico in the semi finals of Block A and will face the winning team of Block B on the 16th.


Speaking of tournaments, AJPW will start it’s 38th Champions Carnival tournament. For those of you that have no idea what the tournament is, Champions Carnival is the AJPW equivalent of the G1 Climax held by New Japan Pro Wrestling. This year, Champions Carnival will be joined by competitors from NOAH, Dragon Gate & Wrestle-1. The following names announced for the blocks are:

Block A

  • Joe Doering (Triple Crown Champion)
  • Kento Miyahara(World Tag Team Champion)
  • Shuji Ishikawa
  • Ryoji Sai
  • Shingo Takagi(Dragon Gate)
  • Yuji Hino(Wrestle-1)
  • The Bodyguard
  • Naoya Nomura


Block B

  • Suwama
  • Jun Akiyama(Gaora TV & All Asia Tag Champion)
  • Naomichi Marufuji(NOAH)
  • Yoshitatsu(World Tag Team Champion)
  • Kai
  • Zeus
  • Dylan James (Formerly known as James Raideen)
  • Yutaka Yoshie

The Champions Carnival begins on April 7th and the finals will take place on April 30th. AJPW has also announced it’s own online streaming service much like companies such as WWE(WWE Network), NJPW(NJPW World) & Stardom(Stardom World) have done. This will begin in March and cost around 900 yen, more details will be announced in the near future.



Stardom will return to Kyoto tomorrow for it’s Kyoto Max 2018 show at KBS Hall. Be sure to check out the event on Stardom World, the event starts at 1:00 PM in Japan which is 11:00 PM EST, 8:00 PM PST & 4:00 AM in the UK.
