Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.
So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!
1) Can Hit Row succeed without its leader, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott?
Not to be doom and gloom, but no. Ashante “Thee” Adonis has some up-sides to him, but even he has a ceiling in the midcard, I feel. Top Dolla never struck me as someone special on the mic or in the ring. B-Fab only wrestled two or three times and was rather awful.
I’m all for giving them another shot, but I don’t think they’re going to be all that successful.
2) Do you think Dexter Lumis should be a heel, babyface or tweener?
Despite how his character comes off as a heel, considering he’s a creepy stalker type guy, I think he works best as a tweener. My favorite stuff I’ve seen from him was when he was working opposite The Way. Some of it was a little goofy, but he’s good as a straight man in comedic situations, more so than trying to be a little more serious like with the Velveteen Dream feud.
He’s someone I could see having an interesting feud with a lot of talent who are good with character work, like Kevin Owens, The Miz, Baron Corbin and Sami Zayn. There aren’t many babyfaces I think could work against him that would have the same sort of chemistry.
3) What are your predictions for NXT Heatwave?
- Bron Breakker retains over JD McDonagh, though it wouldn’t be crazy if McDonagh won. Breakker could definitely drop the belt and go to the main roster in the draft, particularly if that’s happening after Clash at the Castle.
- Mandy Rose retains over Zoey Stark. I still think Rose is holding that belt for Nikkita Lyons.
- Roxanne Perez beats Cora Jade. I’m only about 60/40 on this, though.
- Carmelo Hayes retains over Giovanni Vinci. It would shock me if that belt changed hands.
- Despite how the stipulation is that Tony D’Angelo winning would be what takes Santos Escobar away from NXT, I think we’ll see Escobar win AND leave NXT.
4) Erick Redbeard has popped up a few times for AEW, but can’t get that “is All Elite” graphic. Do you think AEW should sign him to a contract, or would you rather see him elsewhere?
In the grand scheme of things, I don’t think he would move the needle for AEW. If they had the disposable income to just sign as many people as possible, I’d be down to see him join that roster. The same goes for WWE. He’s not incapable of providing something as a big man, as we’ve seen him work well in the past. But I don’t think he’s a game changer. There are other big men more worth investing in. Someone like Wardlow can be a legitimate top guy for AEW. Lance Archer has tenure and more to his name. Redbeard didn’t join AEW during its inception and missed that window to be a beast, I think. Each time he loses, his credibility goes downhill.
Ideally, I’d like to see him go somewhere like NWA or Impact Wrestling. He’d be better off as a bigger fish in a smaller pond.
5) Now that the bracket has been established, how do you see the AEW World Trios Championship tournament working out?
Death Triangle beats Will Ospreay and Aussie Open. I had thought Young Bucks and Adam Page would be in the finals against Adam Cole and reDRagon, but since the latter trio isn’t in the tournament at all, let alone on the opposite side of the bracket, there goes that idea. Now, I’m assuming those three will cost Bucks and Hangman, making it Andrade El Idolo, Dragon Lee and Rush who fights Death Triangle. On the right, House of Black beats Dark Order and Best Friends, who beat Trust Busters. The finals are Death Triangle against House of Black, I guess, unless the plan is to go with Andrade’s crew against House of Black or Best Friends, but I’m finding it hard to believe Best Friends beats House of Black or it will be heel on heel, or that Andrade’s crew is turning more babyface.
