Raw Superstars Missing from WWE SummerSlam 2017 Card

SummerSlam 2017 is right around the corner this Sunday night and the go-home show for Monday Night Raw has concluded, meaning by now, if someone hasn’t made it onto the card, they aren’t particularly likely to get one of the coveted spots on the show.

This means it’s time for another look at the superstars on the Raw roster who have been skipped over with another edition of Superstars Missing.

Tomorrow evening after SmackDown, we’ll be looking at the superstars from the blue brand who are suffering a similar fate, but for now, our sights need to be focused on the red brand.

For whatever reason, these men and women below have yet to be advertised for an appearance at SummerSlam and while some of those omissions may be justified, others could be more questionable.

Let’s take a look at which Raw wrestlers will be sitting this show out.

Note: As always, this is speculation and there is always room over the next few days for WWE to announce extra matches or alterations to the card, so keep that in mind.

Jason Jordan / The Miz

Nothing was made official yet, but I have to imagine we’ll be seeing The Miz defend the Intercontinental Championship against Jason Jordan at SummerSlam. They have had far too many interactions as of late, there’s been plenty of teases, and Kurt Angle’s presence is way too big to be ignored.

Since this article is being posted immediately following Raw, there’s still time for this match to be announced, and I wholeheartedly expect it to be, even if it’s on the pre-show.

Elias

The most noteworthy exclusion in my mind who isn’t suffering from an injury is Elias (Samson) who, at best, may have started a feud this week with R-Truth.

Clearly, that’s not good enough to be put onto the SummerSlam lineup. It’s doubtful fans would be clamoring to see the next chapter in that storyline.

Still, it’s a step down from how Elias appeared to be on his way to a somewhat decent push, finding himself involved with Dean Ambrose and Finn Balor from the start of his main roster career.

Here’s hoping for his fans that this isn’t a case of two steps forward and many, many steps backward, but just a temporary lull that will get fixed heading into No Mercy.

From the Midcard

The midcarders with absolutely nothing to do at the moment are Kalisto Curt Hawkins and Darren Young.

In two out of those three cases, it’s a matter of being too low of a priority. In Young’s situation, he’s yet to return from his injuries.

There’s also R-Truth, who would at best be fodder for Elias (as mentioned above), but that’s not something that is noteworthy enough to carve his name in stone for the card even if there’s a chance something might come out of it.

However, keep in mind that we have no idea what is going on with Goldust and any of these four could potentially be involved in a backstage segment of sorts to tie in to what The Bizarre One has in store for everybody.

My guess is definitely Darren Young if any of these are involved, but we’ll see.

From the Women’s Division

Originally, Alexa Bliss was scheduled to face Bayley, but the latter’s injury forced a change to the plans and ruled her out of the card.

In her stead, Sasha Banks will be facing Alexa Bliss, which would have made sense if that were the original plan based off how their match at Great Balls of Fire went down.

With that in mind, the rest of the women’s division is out of the running, so Nia Jax along with Alicia Fox, Dana Brooke, Emma, and Mickie James are not going to be making appearances.

The same goes for Summer Rae and Paige, who have been absent for over one full year, if you’d believe it, although there’s a chance Summer Rae could be what Goldust has hinted at as his beautiful new starlet.

From the Tag Team Division

With Scott Dawson injured, The Revival went from looking like they’d have a match against The Hardy Boyz to definitely not making any appearances over at least the next few weeks, if not few months, which is yet another setback for the talented team.

That also seems to leave The Hardy Boyz with nothing to do, even though they’ve had their interactions with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson as well as The Miztourage.

The Good Brothers themselves have not just worked with Matt and Jeff Hardy, they’ve also seemingly inserted themselves into the feud between Big Show and Enzo Amore working against Big Cass.

I have no idea what WWE has planned regarding these teams, and with the way things have been going down the past two weeks, I wouldn’t be shocked at all if the answer to that was “Creative doesn’t have a plan.”

There’s also Heath Slater and Rhyno, who haven’t accomplished much as of late and with the tag titles already booked up, there was no reason to include them in the plans.

Technically, The Miztourage aren’t scheduled for a match, but we can assume they’ll be ringside supporting The Miz in his match against Jason Jordan. The same may also be true for Apollo Crews and Titus O’Neil in the corner of Akira Tozawa for his Cruiserweight Championship bout.

From the Cruiserweight Division

Per usual, there is only one match representing the cruiserweight division at SummerSlam where Akira Tozawa will defend his newly-won title against the former champion, Neville.

This means, of course, that the rest of the 205 Live crew including Ariya Daivari, The Brian Kendrick, Cedric Alexander, Drew Gulak, Gran Metalik, Gentleman Jack Gallagher, Lince Dorado, Mustafa Ali, Noam Dar, Rich Swann, TJP and Tony Nese are unfortunate enough not to be on the card.

Fromrom my perspective, while some are in decent enough feuds, none of them are important enough to justify taking up another spot at SummerSlam. Their exclusion is completely justified, although I would argue the case that Ariya Daivari could have joined Akira Tozawa to make the title match a triple threat.

Do you think these men and women or any others not on this list should have been booked on the card in some fashion? How would you have utilized them if given the opportunity?
