RK-Bro vs Usos, Who Unifies the Tag Team Titles? & Monday Morning Q&A

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) RK-Bro and The Usos will have their big tag team title unification match this Friday on SmackDown. Who do you think is walking out with both sets of belts?

This is absolutely going to The Usos. That is, of course, if the belts actually do get unified. It would not shock me in the slightest if WWE pulls another fast one and decides to end this match in a double count-out, disqualification, or some other kind of draw. A non-finish would avoid them having to unify the belts, but they can gaslight the audience into forgiving them because, as apologists would say, “They gave you the match. That’s all they promised. They didn’t promise the belts WOULD be unified.”

If RK-Bro wins, it would be one of the most shocking match outcomes of the year for me. I just think there is no way in hell those two are dethroning Jimmy and Jey at this moment.

2) Jordan Devlin came up short in a Loser Leaves NXT UK match. Where do you think we’ll see him next?

With the way he was positioned as nearly beating Ilja Dragunov on his way out, I think he’s staying in the family. They kept him despite the allegations from a few years back, while others were fired super fast. Clearly, WWE likes him, based on how he’s been booked. So many people are going to NXT lately (Nathan Frazer, Gunther had transitioned, Alba Fyre, etc) that I’m thinking he’ll do the same.

Furthermore, I think he’s getting a new name. WWE is rebranding people who have their real names. He won’t be exempt from this. They trademarked Rip Fowler recently. I’m anticipating we’ll get some announcement that there’s a new acquisition to the brand, he’ll state the typical “I’m going to reinvent myself, which is the rationalization behind my new name” promo, and that will be his reintroduction. I’ll go one step further and even say I think Grayson Waller will bring him in to beat Nathan Frazer to get revenge on how Frazer beat Waller during his NXT debut.

3) Chatter says MJF is still upset with his contract and may leave for WWE in 2024. Do you think that will happen?

Being a wrestling fan for decades makes you paranoid. MJF knows how this game is played. He, more than most people, is someone who could pull a fast one and it turns out this whole time all this has been a work, he loves AEW, has no plans on ever leaving, and it’s just to drum up interest.

However…Cody Rhodes did in fact leave for WWE. We know those two are close, and MJF is exactly the type of person Vince McMahon would love to hang his hat on for the future. At least WWE is likely interested and would seemingly offer him a great contract. Maybe Tony Khan can’t match that money, or would rather allocate those funds to getting several other wrestlers to bulk out the roster even more. WWE has always been more of a “this is our one main guy we build around” promotion, whereas AEW so far has been more of a “this is our collection of guys” approach. Would Khan sacrifice getting 4-5 B+ players for one A+ MJF? I don’t know.

There’s a chance MJF thinks his original contract isn’t what he’s worth now and they’re trying to renegotiate, and that could be leading to some feelings of MJF wanting to potentially leave in two years when his deal is up, if not sooner. Maybe Cody is the go-between and will help him switch over to WWE.

Current prediction: MJF does leave for WWE in 2024, but not sooner.

4) One last guess. Who will be the joker competitors to face Samoa Joe and Dr. Britt Baker in the Owen Hart Cup?

I’m putting all my money down on Cesaro being the one to fight Joe. It needs to be someone who can conceivably beat him and be a big star. While there are certainly options to pull from the New Japan side of things, I just don’t think it’s going to suddenly be Kazuchika Okada or someone like that. I also don’t think it is Johnny Gargano, who I see floated around a lot as a potential name, nor someone on the Ring of Honor side like Jonathan Gresham.

The one fighting Baker is a harder guess for me, but I’m still leaning toward Athena (formerly Ember Moon). I fully expect Baker to beat the joker, but I’m less convinced about Joe. With that in mind, Baker can beat Athena, Joe can lose to Cesaro, and if other people are the surprise competitors or this goes down differently, I’m still intrigued.

5) Bobby Lashley and Omos will face off this week on Raw in a steel cage match. With Hell in a Cell just around the corner in two weeks, what do you think WWE’s strategy is here?

I’d love to say that I think their plan is to do something where the steel cage match whets everyone’s appetite and they have something else much bigger planned for Hell in a Cell, so fans will go “Wow, damn, that steel cage match was amazing, and Hell in a Cell has this even better thing advertised! I’m so excited!” However, let’s be realistic. They probably first off do not care that they’re doing such a similar gimmick because the overall approach to the product is quantity of content hours takes priority over quality of the content. But they also probably think that if they throw this gimmick on Raw, it’ll convince fans they’re getting something special and “practically getting the pay-per-view for free” and it will avoid them doing Omos/Lashley at HIAC itself.

I think it’s a mistake on multiple levels. It will water everything down, the match won’t likely be all that great, and there’s no guarantee they don’t just do another match at the event, too, anyway.
