Seth Rollins should return to the title picture

The “Kingslayer” has the chance to again become the face of the WWE, by winning the Elimination Chamber Match and facing Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at Wrestlemania 34.

Since beating Triple H at Wrestlemania 33, Seth Rollins was expected to become one of the main contenders for the Universal Title.

Yet, his reunion with former Shield “brother”, Dean Ambrose, brought him to the Tag Team Division, where the duo consecutively fought against the current RAW Tag Team Champions, Cesaro and Sheamus (the “Bar”).

In the last months of 2017, the “Shield” was reunited, with Roman Reigns joining Ambrose and Rollins, while even RAW GM, Kurt Angle, became a member of the “Shield” for one night, during the TLC pay-per-view in December. However, this also meant the “Architect” wouldn’t get a title opportunity until the end of 2017.

Following the “Lunatic Fringe’s” injury, Jason Jordan was appointed as Rollins’ tag team partner and the duo kept fighting against the “Bar” until the Royal Rumble.

Due to Jordan’s serious neck injury, which required surgery, Rollins now is at a crossroads regarding Wrestlemania 34, as the original plan was for Rollins and Jordan to fight each other at the “Showcase of the Immortals”.

His participation in the Elimination Chamber Match raised the stakes, so the creative team may try to make the surprise and appoint him as the opponent of the “Beast”, instead of Reigns, who is scheduled to challenge Lesnar.

Given the history between the current champion and the “Kingslayer”, which started in 2015, when Rollins became the first wrestler to cash in his Money in the Bank contract at Wrestlemania, it’s likely the company would try to renew that rivalry.

On the other hand, if the WWE decides to proceed with the Lesnar vs Reigns scenario, the only viable option for the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is to challenge The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship in New Orleans on April 8th.

As both superstars have great wrestling and microphone skills, such a match would certainly be one of the best in the event.

This match would also have huge implications, as not only would the title be on the line, but Rollins would have the chance to complete his Grand Slam, having won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the United States Championship and the RAW Tag Team Championship.

In addition, the creative team could further raise the stakes, by adding a stipulation to the match (e.g future title opportunity).

What would also make sense is the possibility of Finn Balor joining the match, since the Triple Threat Match between Balor, the Miz and the “Architect” last spring, which determined the number one contender for Ambrose’s Intercontinental Title, was one of the best matches of 2017 on Monday Night Raw.

Last but not least, the creative team could also consider a heel turn for Rollins, which could lead to a new feud with a WWE Superstar at Wrestlemania.

In that case, a decent option would be Kurt Angle, with their storyline being based on Rollins accusing Angle of not granting him any title opportunities for a very long time, for instance.

What is weird, though, is why Seth Rollins, who is considered one of the best and most talented superstars in the WWE right now, has been out of the title picture for so long.

The “Architect” has been on top of the WWE in the last four years, having claimed almost every title he has fought for, while he was the WWE world champion and the United States champion at the same time in 2015.

So, I think he deserves to return to the title picture as soon as possible and start fighting against the top guys, like Reigns, Braun Strowman, Lesnar, even John Cena and Ambrose, for the Universal Title.

It is also worth adding that the return of his signature move, the “Curb Stomp”, has helped him solidify himself as one of the top guys once again, so we should now wait to find out what plans the creative team has for the “Kingslayer” ahead of Wrestlemania 34.
