Vickie Guerrero — A True Professional

During WrestleMania XXX week, the news leaked online that Vickie Guerrero was going to be wrapping up her career as a “sports entertainer,” as she would be leaving WWE to pursue other life interests. A week or two later, reports surfaced that claimed she would be sticking around to allow WWE to appropriately write her character out of existing television story lines.

As a longtime authority figure and on-again, off-again manager, Vickie decided that WWE was making a reasonable request, and decided to postpone her plans, as to allow WWE to properly write her off of the show.

Big mistake.

Instead of leaving with what little bit of dignity that she has left after a lengthy run in WWE that has seen her mocked and humiliated without mercy, she allowed herself to stick around for a few final low-blows.

It started when WWE decided to incorporate a personal beef that the McMahon’s had with coffee after one of them — presumably Stephanie McMahon — received a bad cup of coffee in real-life. I say Stephanie because on television Triple H’s coffee was fine, while Stephanie was stuck with the bad cup.

In the wacky “WWE Universe” a situation like this is all it takes for the “powers that be” to use their international television show to air out their personal grievances and inside jokes.

The problem here is that WWE does this far too often. What is it about Vince McMahon, or whoever makes these type of decisions, that loves to humiliate their employees in front of millions of people? To mock and degrade talented performers in their hometowns on purpose?

I don’t get it.

Vickie Guerrero became an active character on WWE television because her husband, the great Eddie Guerrero, tragically passed away. Since day one, WWE has treated Vickie like a total joke. They have had guys pretend to fall in love with her. They have put her in positions that have made her look stupid, pathetic, or both.

Why?

What did she do to anyone? Maybe there’s something under the surface that I’m not aware of, because as best I can tell, she is a nice lady who ended up a television performer because of a tragedy and despite not having any real history as an on-air talent, actually got over as one of the top heel acts in the company for several years.

She does the right thing as a professional employee of a corporate company, and decided to stay and allow them to “wrap up business” related to her on her way out.

To translate, for those who don’t speak “WWE,” that basically means they want a couple of extra weeks to shit all over her on live television before sending her packing. They have people puke on her, mock her, make fun of her, make her look stupid and then say “thanks for your hard work over the past several years and best of luck in your future endeavors.”

Disgusting.

Here’s to Vickie Guerrero for enduring so much bullshit from a very immature and childish company for so many years. For entertaining fans for nearly a decade. And for bravely sticking around for a little added humiliation on the way out the door, just to prove that she is a true professional. She isn’t going to be returning to WWE in five years to make a run for the Divas Championship. I don’t see WWE re-hiring her in her 50s for another run as “General Manager.” So basically, she had no reason to stick around for the extra bullshit, but because she’s a pro, decided to do so anyways.

That’s class. I respect that.

Good luck getting puked on some more Vickie, or going through whatever senseless crap WWE conjures up for your last few weeks of employment. I’ve enjoyed your run as a fan, and honestly do hope you have the best of luck in your future endeavors.

….and I hope they involve less vomit.
