We Want Sasha Banks….Why The Boss Needs More WWE Airtime.

Sasha Banks is just weeks from delivering a Match of the Year performance alongside Bayley, but that was on NXT programming, not Raw or SmackDown. On those shows, the popular former NXT Women’s Champion has become little more than an afterthought, barely ever showing up and doing little of note when she does get any sort of TV time. The Raw spotlight seems to be too busy chasing around John Cena’s eye candy and The Nature Boy’s little girl. In my opinion, this is a travesty.

It should be seen as common knowledge by now that if something gets over in WWE NXT, it has a strong chance of getting over when it comes to the main roster. Sasha Banks has a good chance to potentially be the Shawn Michaels of the WWE Diva Division, having matches that deliver great performances and a gimmick that can stay over for a long time.

After 2 tremendous battles against Bayley, Sasha not only gained the respect of the NXT audience, but slowly made herself known to many more main roster fans. When you think of the kind of matches Sasha could be having right it’s more than a little depressing that they’ve almost exclusively used her as a side show cheerleader for Team B.A.D. Yes her gimmick can be used in many variations, but I’m sure this is not what the late Dusty Rhodes had in mind when he was showing her the ropes.

The Divas Division needs is an injection of new life. As I see it, the 3 on 3 matches that include Alicia Fox and the other half of Daniel Bryan are barley a decent attraction. The “We want Sasha” chants continue to rain down on WWE RAW, showing the respect Banks has with the fans. The storytelling for the division has not exactly improved either. This is evident in many places, like Paige turning on Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch multiple times over the past month only to have previous incidents that we’d all seen go virtually ignored. But nowhere is the disconnect between what they’re giving us and what everyone wants to see more apparent than with Sasha Banks. Sasha continues to show up in awesome Instagram videos with The New Day, making us think that there’s nothing planned for her in the foreseeable future. This is another questionable decision considering the fact that she looked to be the one who would reignite the stagnant Divas Division upon her main roster debut.

It all leads us to scratch our heads to wonder what could taking so long. Is she injured? Is she being punished for something we are not aware of? Recent reports have suggested a face turn could be in the works as well. Grantland’s David Shoemaker made the following points as to maybe a face turn could be in the works and serve her better for the future:

She’s got the look, the character, and the extraordinary ring skills that made her two NXT title matches against Bayley instant classics. (If you haven’t seen them, watch them both right this instant.) Beyond that, however, she has that special something that all wrestlers dream of having — you can’t stop watching her when she’s onscreen, and you can’t stop wishing she were onscreen whenever she’s not. Fans have been chanting “We want Sasha!” during nearly every Divas segment over the past month, an indication that WWE is underutilizing her and that it has a singular talent on its hands.

There are still reports out there that talk about a plan of pushing Sasha Banks to the WWE Diva’s Championship, where she could face Charlotte. (I sure hope they are true.) She could very well win against her, even though WWE loves Charlotte and it seems they have a lot invested in her as well. The thought is that Banks is in her early 20’s and has a good decade left, while Charlotte is 30 and does not have nearly as long. Among most, the feeling is that Banks is seen as the best wrestler in the entire Diva’s Division on NXT and the main roster. Her character is already over and she doesn’t even need to be in the title picture. So again I ask, why isn’t she used more?

It would be criminal if by WrestleMania next year Sasha Banks is not in a meaningful feud, featured as a main attraction and/or wearing that strap. Can anyone see any reason why not? Thoughts?
