As a big fan of Austin Aries, it gives me great pleasure to see this news today. Austin Aries is one of the best wrestlers on the planet in terms of technical ability, and not only that, but he can play a mean heel as well. Not the biggest guy, but definitely one of the most impactful, Austin Aries made a name for himself by becoming the first two-time ROH World Champion. After his time on the independent scene, he made more of a name for himself by returning to TNA Wrestling five years ago, and from there he became a dominant X-Division champion, often putting on Match Of The Night with whomever TNA put in front of him.

But his biggest success came at Destination X 2012. Aries created “Option C”, the opportunity for a World title shot if he was to vacate his X-Division Championship. Aries fought Bobby Roode in arguably the most memorable TNA World Heavyweight Championship match in recent memory, coming out as the victor, and the fan response was amazing. He was congratulated by his peers, including CM Punk who was WWE Champion at the time.

You’ve heard the catchphrases “The Best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be”. You’ve heard of “Best in the World”, and “Best in the World at what I do”. But you may not have heard of “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”, and that man is coming to NXT to wrestle other promising talents. Aries is not in development, he’s just getting his feet wet, pretty much like Kevin Owens did. What goes against Aries is his temperament. He’s been known to be arrogant and entitled backstage, and it sometimes got him in to trouble while working for TNA. The biggest incident was when Christy Hemme botched Aries and Roode’s entrance, and Aries put his junk in her face. Hemme was really upset over it, and Aries was forced to apologize and take some time off. “You take the botch, you get the crotch”.

He’s 37 years old now, so I won’t expect Aries to become a WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but at least he can make his mark on the WWE Universe, and not be remembered as one of the greatest wrestlers never to work for WWE. Hopefully he leaves his old temperament at the door and embraces the desire to be the Greatest Man That WWE Ever Signed. NXT already has a plethora of talent, and Aries is the sparkly icing on the cake everyone wants a piece of; like we needed more reasons to watch NXT! Thanks for reading. I’ll leave you with my personal Match Of The Day, Austin Aries vs Bobby Roode for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Destination X 2012.
