Who will be our next WWE World Heavyweight Champion?

No! No! No!  Daniel Bryan is out of action. The Yes! Movement has been halted. The champion has been stripped.  Going into the Money in the Bank PPV there is currently no WWE World Heavyweight Champion but for the first time ever there will be a Money in the Bank style 8-man ladder match to determine who will be crowned the new champion. To quote Triple H, this is “best for business.”

The competitors for the match are the Viper and Evolution member Randy Orton, the face of WWE John Cena, the King of Swing Cesaro, The Mexican aristocrat Alberto Del Rio, the Great White, United states champion Sheamus, the eater of words Bray Wyatt, the demon Kane and the hound of justice Roman Reigns. Anyone of these men could be our next world champion and speculation is rife about who could be our next WWE World Heavyweight champion. It’s been reported that the next champion will be a heel and that would put Sheamus, Cena and Reigns all out of the fray. The reason for this is when Bryan returns he will feud with the champion so the chances of them having him feud with a face aren’t very high. I would also rule Alberto Del Rio out of the running. Del Rio was put in the match before it was confirmed that Bryan was out and I do believe that at this point, the company was expecting Daniel Bryan to be fit in time to defend the title. Del Rio would have been competing in the match for the briefcase but now he just fills one of the slots for the championship match.
The safe option for the company would be to put the title on either John Cena or Orton. With Cena being a 14-time world champion along with the face of the company he is a safe option as they know that he can carry the gold and be a good champion as he’s shown it in the past. I am a big Cena fan but I do feel that he is in major need of a revamp and the best way to do this would be turn him heel but this would not be “best for business.” Due to his huge merchandise sales and all his charity work I’d be shocked to see a Cena heel turn anytime soon. This means, I can’t see him feuding with Daniel Bryan when he makes his inevitable return.
This brings me onto Randy Orton. He is a heel and also part of Evolution. The fact that he’s currently running alongside Triple H and Seth Rollins in my mind, makes him favourite for the match. I can see Evolution having a clean sweep and Rollins capturing the briefcase, only for Rollins and the Game to screw Orton in the future and have Rollins cash in on Orton. This would seemingly make Orton face if he was to fight against the Authority and would mean Rollins against all the odds makes it to the top of the WWE. This would also further play on the idea that Rollins is sell out and can’t be trusted and could eventually lead to Rollins turning on Triple H and sparking a feud between them. Wins over Orton and the Game would establish Rollins as a top guy so this turn out wouldn’t surprise me what so ever as I do believe the company sees Rollins as one of the top guys in the future.
All three members of the Shield will one day be top guys within the WWE so a win for Reigns wouldn’t be too big a surprise either. Personally, I would wait before I put the title on him. The reason for putting the title on Reigns is so that the on screen feud between evolution and The Shield can continue although after tuning into Raw, Main Event and Smackdown I have a feeling the Shield is already broken up. The first bit of the shield music has been cut and Now Roman Reigns is using the instrumental as his entrance music. Ambrose has debuted his own new music and has stopped dressing in the Shield attire. This all suggests to me that the shield is over but nobody thought it worthy to inform us. Reigns hasn’t come to the aid of Ambrose whilst being attacked so surely, the Shield must be over?
If Reigns wins, I predict Ambrose will win the other Money in the Bank match. Although he hasn’t yet been confirmed for it, I fully expect him to participate in the traditional match continuing his feud with Rollins. This will then lead to the continuation of the onscreen feud of Evolution and the Shield with Triple H teasing that Ambrose will one day have to cash in on Reigns and the Shield will be obliterated. It could lead to a Reigns and Orton feud for the title and Rollins taking on Ambrose for the briefcase.
Cesaro and Wyatt are unlikely to take the titles home in my opinion. Although they are two very good superstars, it may be too early in their career. The only reason Cesaro would win would be to elevate Paul Heyman’s status as the best manager of all time and would lead to a feud between Cesaro and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar has beaten the streak so therefore, he is the best in the business? He then argues that the best should hold the gold so says he’s going after the title. This means Heyman has to take a side and obviously he chooses good friend Lesnar. This feud with two of the top heels in the company puts Cesaro over as a huge babyface and allows him to cement his position at the top.
With the gimmick Wyatt has going he doesn’t need the title to establish himself by being champion. He is also expected to turn face so I can’t foresee a feud with Bryan which could rule him out. On the other hand, with the Wyatt family members Rowan and Harper looking set to capture the tag titles against the Uso’s the company could go in the direction of having every stable member hold a title. Personally I can’t see this. I can see the tag titles being captured by the Wyatt family, Bray failing to win the title and the break up of the Wyatt family. I can’t see Rowan and Harper being effective heels but Bray is more than likely to become face at some point in the near future. Therefore, I’d be shocked to see Bray leave as champion.
As for Sheamus, he is already United States champion so I doubt he’ll become a duel champion. He’s us has already been a world champion before and with matches being advertised for him to defend his U.S. title at house shows. If that’s to happen surely, he couldn’t defend a world title as well? This indicates to me that Sheamus will continue his reign as U.S champion but will not be picking up the world title. I do think Sheamus could be a good champion and would be an interesting choice but personally, I can’t see it happening.
This brings me on to the final participant, Kane. He was someone I was expecting to be in the match to begin with so was surprised to see him not in the initial line up. With no place on the PPV I should have expected Kane to someone end up being entered but I will admit I didn’t foresee what happened on Raw. Kane is someone who’s passed it for me. It’s time for him to step out of the spotlight and open up a main event spot for a younger guy. I can see Orton being set for the title before Kane turns face and costs him the titles therefore leaving the Authority. I do just see Kane being another man in this match I definitely can’t see him coming out as champion but it could set up a future rivalry for the big red monster.
To be honest, before seeing different articles and watching Raw and Main Event, Randy Ortona and John Cena were the men I predicted would walk away with the title after the PPV but now, I’m turning towards Roman Reigns. At Main event he stood tall with the titles and has been advertised for the main event of house shows. Orton is set to compete against Sheamus for the U.S. title on house shows with Wyatt and Cena continuing their feud. Reigns has been advertised as the main event so for me this indicates that these could be matches were he defends his title. Wether you like him or not it’s clear the company love him. Reigns is almost undoubtedly a future world champion and I’m beginning to believe that his time is now. Cheers for reading.
