Wrestling Entertainment Series UK Predictions

Out of nowhere in May, it was announced former WWE Superstars The Authors of Pain (now known as The Legion of Pain) had their own promotion and were setting up for a show: Wrestling Entertainment Series.

Originally scheduled for June 4—the same day as NXT In Your House and one day before WWE Hell in a Cell, during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee—the event was postponed at the last minute, shifting its date to July 9.

We’re now just a few days away from that and this is looking like WES should be renamed MESS. People are being advertised to appear when they’ve said they won’t, some have lost out on money because of this and Adam Cailler is reporting less than 350 tickets have been sold for the venue, which seats 10 thousand.

Originally, the card was supposed to be as follows:

  • World Championship: “The Titan” Adam Scherr (fka Braun Strowman) vs. Alistair Overeem
  • World Women’s Championship: CJ Perry (fka Lana) vs. Lina Fanene (fka Nia Jax)
  • World Tag Team Championship: Westin Blake (fka Wesley Blake) and Steve Maclin (fka Steve Cutler) vs. Legion of Pain (fka AOP, Akam and Rezar)
  • JONAH (fka Bronson Reed) vs. Killer Kross (fka Karrion Kross) vs. Samuray Del Sol (fka Kalisto)
  • World Women’s Tag Team Championship: Deonna Purrazzo and Chelsea Green vs. Madison Rayne and Tenille Dashwood
  • Lince Dorado vs. Dean Muhtadi (fka Mojo Rawley)
  • Biff Busick (fka Oney Lorcan) vs. Mike Bennett
  • Dirty Dango (fka Fandango) vs. Levis Valenzuela Jr (fka No Way Jose)

As you’ll see with this rundown of the card and my predictions, that’s nowhere near what is being currently advertised.

MAIN EVENT — WES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Alistair Overeem vs. Moose

Thoughts: When it was Overeem against Scherr, I assumed Scherr would be the champion. He’s the one with more experience, after all. Now that Scherr’s been replaced by Moose, I don’t think we’ll see a similar outcome. Moose is too tied into Impact Wrestling to be the champion of another organization, I’d assume. Instead, it looks more like Overeem would be their prime guy.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem wins.

CO-MAIN EVENT — WES WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
TBA (advertised as Lina Fanene) vs. TBA

Thoughts: Well…uh…TBA sure is looking like a solid pick here, right? Holy hell. It was supposed to be Nia Jax against Lana, which was already bad enough. Then, it was Nia Jax against “someone else, we’ll figure it out” and here we are, July 6, and they’re still advertising Fanene, who has outright said she won’t be there, and there isn’t another opponent. Yeeeesh.

Prediction: Literally pick anyone random on the indie circuit and your guess is as good as any. Paola Mayfield might be their champion at the end of the day, for all we know.

WES WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Legion of Pain vs. BT Gunn and Kez Evans

Thoughts: Not that I thought two thirds of The Forgotten Sons were going to win the titles in the first place, but when you replace them with BT Gunn and Kez Evans, there’s another distinct difference in star power. Plus, Legion of Pain run this company. Of course they’re winning their titles. It would be insane for them not to.

Prediction: Legion of Pain wins.

WES WOMEN’S WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Steph De Lander and Anastasia vs. She Wolves

Thoughts: Steph De Lander is NXT’s Persia Pirotta. I have no idea who the other three women are and have never heard of them whatsoever. Therefore, I’m assuming Steph De Lander and Anastasia win as one of them has been on national television many times in the past year. This is a far cry from the original tag team title match, isn’t it?

Prediction: Steph De Lander and Anastasia win.

SINGLES MATCH:
Lince Dorado vs. Samuray Del Sol

Thoughts: This is actually interesting. Two former teammates against each other? Lucha House Party wasn’t the greatest stable, but these two are both wildly talented. I’m curious to see what they can do opposite the ring one another. It isn’t enough to justify spending the money for the event for this match alone, but it’s something.

Prediction: Samuray Del Sol wins.

SINGLES MATCH:
Damo Mackle vs. Dean Muhtadi

Thoughts: Mojo Rawley against Killian Dain. Sorry, fellas, but this is WWE Main Event quality stuff, not WrestleMania. I’m guessing Damo plays the monster heel and Muhtadi plays the hyped-up babyface. Depending on if Overeem is portrayed as a heel/face, that could dictate what happens. If Overeem is a face, Damo wins this as a heel and we’ve got a future match. Vice versa, if Overeem is a heel, I think Muhtadi squeaks by with a victory.

Prediction: Damo Mackle wins.

SINGLES MATCH:
Eric Young vs. Zac Zodiac

Thoughts: One of these guys has been in Impact and WWE and won many championships, even being the world champion of TNA and headlining events. The other is Zac Zodiac, who I have never heard of before, as someone who doesn’t have the flexibility to study the indies. Unless they go with a swerve just for the sake of it, this should easily be Young’s match.

Prediction: Eric Young wins.

SINGLES MATCH:
Jody Fliesch vs. Levis Valenzuela Jr.

Thoughts: No Way Jose against a guy I know nothing about (Fleisch). Since Valenzuela was part of the original card, I’m assuming he’s somewhat buddy buddy with LOP and he’ll get the victory. He’s probably the person they’re more invested in for future events. Keep the wins on those guys.

Prediction: Levis Valenzuela Jr. wins.

WILL THE EVENT ACTUALLY HAPPEN?:
Is it going to be cancelled or postponed yet again, or will they follow through with it?

Thoughts: This isn’t looking good at all. So much negativity surrounds this and the ticket sales, if reports are true, are abysmal. I can’t imagine less than 400 people being in a 10k arena and this going off well. I wholeheartedly expect them to move it to another date and a smaller venue at the last minute, which we’re rapidly approaching.

Prediction: It gets postponed.

UPDATE: An hour or so after I posted this, the show got cancelled! Look at that.
