Wrestling Fan’s Predictions- WWE SummerSlam 2014

Hi everyone, it’s that time of year again when the summer is here and WWE’s second biggest pay-per-view of the year rolls around! SummerSlam’s in the past have been lacking the name of WWE’s second biggest pay-per-view, but this year, there are a handful of matches that have the potential to make this SummerSlam a great one, minus the lack of build for some of the matches. So, let’s take a look into my predictions for tomorrow night’s SummerSlam extravaganza!

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose- Lumberack match-

Well, this feud is finally coming to ahead as Ambrose and Rollins finally face off in their first WWE singles match! I for one have loved the build coming into this match and is without a doubt the most built up match of the night. Most people, including myself were quite surprised and disappointed with the stipulation of this match being a Lumberjack match, but now I am warming up to the idea and I can see the point of why the match would be a Lumberjack match. This match still has the potential to be a good brawl, even with superstars throwing Seth and Dean back into the ring, and as the match is a Lumberjack match, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them face off one more time at Night of Champions, maybe for the Money in the Bank Briefcase. I believe this is an even match, but Ambrose could do with the win in order to progress the feud further, where Rollins will the final match of the feud.

My Prediction- Dean Ambrose gets the win.

Jack Swagger vs. Rusev- Flag match-

Another match that has had some good built to it, and after their match at Battleground, this won’t be a drag out brawl that most people think it will be. Yes, the match won’t be a classic, but it can be somewhat good, and with the stipulation being a Flag match, it gives this match a unique touch to it. I expect Rusev to win this after a lot of back and forth action with Swagger, with Rusev going onto bigger things and Swagger once again being lost in the shuffle.

My prediction- Rusev wins.

Intercontinental Championship- The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler-

The Moneymaker vs. The Showoff, The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler. These men have had matches in the past and they’ve proved to quite exciting, especially the match they had on RAW a few weeks ago. It’s great that the WWE is finally giving Ziggler a major stage to show off his skills, but unfortunately for the Showoff, it won’t be his night, as the man who looks to protect his Moneymaker The Miz will come out victorious and hopefully face Sheamus at Night of Champions to unify both the I.C. and U.S. Championships.

My Prediction- The Miz retains the title

Divas Championship- A.J. Lee (c) vs. Paige-

Finally, we have a Divas match that has been built up well and the Divas involved in the feud can actually wrestle to back the whole thing up. Paige beat A.J. the night after WrestleMania 30, and then A.J. beat Paige the night she returned after Money in the Bank. They had the rubber match at Battleground, and tomorrow night it’s the grudge match. Paige has shown some good yet slow character development since turning against her bestfriend A.J., which makes for an intriguing match this Sunday. This will no doubt be better than the Steph vs. Brie match, which I do not have high hopes for. Nonetheless, I expect A.J. to get the win tonight, setting up another match between the two at Night of Champions, where if A.J. gets disqualified, she will lose the title.

My Prediction- A.J. Lee retains the title

Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt- Wyatt Family are banned from ringside

The Leader of the Worlds vs. Y2J Chris Jericho Take 2 will take place this Sunday at SummerSlam. After their match at Battleground, I hope Sunday’s match is much better, as I think both men are capable of much more and will put it all out at SummerSlam. The whole concept behind this match is Wyatt testing Jericho and trying to find out exactly what Jericho is trying to ‘save us’ from. This is the feud that could have done with some more build, as just sneak attacks on Jericho don’t make a great feud, and if more things were done to elevate the feud, then maybe I’d be more excited for this one. Since Jericho won at Battleground, I fully expect Wyatt to win tonight, leading to a third match at Night of Champions in a Loser Leaves Town match of some sort, where the loser will have to leave the WWE, which is where Jericho will part from the WWE yet again.

My Prediction- Bray Wyatt wins.

Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon-

Well… I can see why they’re doing this match, but the only reason Brie is in the match is because of her husband, Daniel Bryan. The reasoning behind this match is here, but I don’t expect it to be as good as the Paige vs. A.J. match, simply because Brie cannot wrestle as good as those two and Stephanie isn’t an active competitor. Yet again, it will be fun to see Stephanie back in the ring again as she did have some exciting matches back in the Attitude Era against the likes of Trish Stratus and Lita. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nikki turn on her sister for everything that’s she been put through, which would start a feud between the two sisters.

My Prediction- Stephanie McMahon gets the win.

Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns-

Well… it’s finally happening, the one on one encounter between Randy Orton and the next biggest star of the WWE, Roman Reigns. This one picked up a little bit when Orton assaulted Reigns and delivered two RKO’s to Reigns on the announce table, but other than that, this feud hasn’t had anything else to it. This will be Reigns true test as to whether he can compete in the top spot, as we all know Orton is capable of having a great match with anyone, so if the match falls flat, it will be on Reigns. However, that won’t stop the WWE from pushing Reigns to the stars, and he will no doubt win this match with the dreaded Spear, and go on his way to face the COO of the company… Triple H.

My Prediction- Roman Reigns gets the victory.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship- John Cena (c) vs. Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman-

Well it’s finally here, the rematch that everyone was expecting from Extreme Rules two years ago, John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, and this time with the additional of Lesnar’s mouthpiece and in my opinion the greatest manager of all time… Paul Heyman, and it’s a damn good job Heyman is involved in this feud. Heyman has been the mouth piece for Lesnar for this entire feud, and as expected the promos from Heyman have been exceptional, and Cena hasn’t done bad himself. The promo between Heyman and Cena from 3 weeks ago was very well done in my opinion, and that along with the excellent video package that was made two weeks ago on RAW has got me really pumped for this match! This is a hard one to call in some ways, as even though Lesnar seems like the obvious choice, it’s a matter of what will he do with the title if he wins it… will he stay around for months to defend the title? Or will he drop it back to Cena the following month at Night of Champions? It’s going to be interesting as to how WWE deals with this situation, but I for one am very excited about this match and will be interested to see how this one plays out.

My Prediction- Brock Lesnar wins the title.

So, there you have it! My Predictions for tomorrow night’s WWE SummerSlam PPV. Although not all of the matches have had the proper build, the majority of the show looks to be very good and some of the matches have the potential to make this a very good show indeed. So, will the Beast Incarnate win back the title he hasn’t held in 10 years? Or will Super Cena prevail to glory? To find out, watch SummerSlam this Sunday and as always, let me know what you think in the comments section below!
