WWE Clash of Champions 2020 Preview: Full Card, Match Predictions & More

Notable Superstars Missing from the Card

Note: This is not a full list of everyone on the roster who is not scheduled for the show. It excludes jobbers, injured talent, people who wouldn’t have normally been expected to appear on the show for some fashion, those who are unable to perform due to travel restrictions and so on. It also should be noted that much of the information regarding COVID-19 pandemic regulations and precautions is not public knowledge, so there’s no telling if anyone on this list or elsewhere is not going to be on the card due to those factors.

Aleister Black / Kevin Owens = Simply put, these two are feuding, but they don’t have a belt to fight over. The end. It’s Clash of Champions, not Clash of Two Guys Who Hate Each Other Right Now For Some Reason.

Dominik Mysterio / Seth Rollins / etc = I’m all for not having to see another episode that deals with this storyline, aren’t you? The quicker we move past this, the better. I’m fine with none of these superstars being involved in the title picture (even though I’d rather not have seen the Raw tag title match just be another repeat in the same regard).

Keith Lee = Although there were always interferences and the like, Lee technically had his shots to get into the WWE Championship match, but didn’t get the job done. That’s as good of an excuse as we’ll get for why he’s not on the card.

RETRIBUTION = They’ve clarified that this group has officially signed contracts (even though they were clearly contracted before, since they’re people we’ve seen in NXT, but whatever) and as such, they’re eligible now to be missing from the card. I do expect them to show up and interfere in the ambulance match. More on that in the Heat Index predictions.

R-Truth and the 24/7 Championship = Every title is supposed to be defended on this card, right? So why don’t we have a 24/7 Championship match officially advertised?

Big E / Sheamus = Like some other people on this list, these two have a feud going on, but they aren’t in the title scene. That explains their absence good enough for me.

Braun Strowman = Is he on Raw now, since he’s fighting on Raw Underground? Is that supposed to be a second instance of the “once per quarter” brand-to-brand invitational that they’ve already done twice this quarter? WWE doesn’t know and doesn’t care.

Bray Wyatt = My guess is they want to do Wyatt vs. Reigns for Hell in a Cell and to stall for that, they’re just keeping him off Clash of Champions.

John Morrison and The Miz / Otis = I’d be totally fine with the Money in the Bank briefcase being defended as if it were a title, wouldn’t you? It’s not technically a championship, but it’s close to one.

King Corbin / Matt Riddle = These guys just aren’t doing anything, unfortunately. Nothing much to see here.

Alexa Bliss / Sasha Banks = While they aren’t officially on the card, I do expect Bliss and Banks to have a shot at showing up in the SmackDown Women’s Championship match. WWE could always hold off on that until SmackDown to stretch things out, but since the company has shown no hesitation in just repeating things for the sake of it, what’s stopping them from having Bliss attack Cross, Banks attack Bayley, showing a rewind of it on SmackDown and then having the same segment take place again on Friday night despite the repetition?
