Match Predictions and Heat Index Anticipation Levels

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Roman Reigns wins.

Thoughts: I’ve seen it a million times. Literally, they’ve run this enough that I’ve spent YEARS complaining about how many times I’ve had to write about it. I even instituted a “Brock Lesnar Rule” on my podcast where I just didn’t want to say the same things anymore. The dynamic is different this time, but that doesn’t mean I expect them to have a drastically different match or anything. Sorry, WWE. You ran this into the ground years ago.

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Big E (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Big E wins.

Thoughts: I’m curious to see what kind of match they work against each other. My guess is McIntyre plays the heel by default. However, I don’t think it’ll be particularly amazing, nor do I tend to like babyface vs. babyface matches like this in general—especially when we know McIntyre isn’t winning that belt and taking it to SmackDown.

SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLE THREAT MATCH:
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Becky Lynch wins.

Thoughts: The quality of the match is what I’m looking forward to more than anything else. I don’t think the feud for anything from these past 3 months has been great enough to have stretched out this much, nor do I think the outcome will be anything surprising. Lynch retains so she can swap belts with Flair when the draft comes into effect. The match should be good, though, considering how great these three are.

KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT FINAL:
Finn Balor vs. Xavier Woods

Heat Index = Scorching
Prediction: Finn Balor wins.

Thoughts: If I didn’t know how much Xavier Woods has pitched to win King of the Ring all these years, I would be totally on board with Finn Balor winning. I actually really like the idea of him becoming King of the Ring and tying that into the Demon King vs Prince kind of monikers. However, give it to Woods! The guy hasn’t had any singles championships and it’s doubtful he’ll get the same main event world title push that Big E and Kofi Kingston got. He’s super underrated and he deserves his fair share of accolades. King of the Ring is the least they can do. Even if it’s stupid of me to get wrapped up in what I hope versus what I think will happen, I’m going into this with my fingers crossed for Woods. However, I think WWE has too much of a track record of saying “lol but we like disappointing people” so I’m going with Balor as my prediction.

QUEEN’S CROWN TOURNAMENT FINAL:
Doudrop vs. Zelina Vega

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Zelina Vega wins.

Thoughts: It’s down to these two? Vega’s underrated as hell and they’ve always just jobbed her out, so I’m shocked they might be finally coming around to realizing her talents, but I can’t trust in that. Doudrop should’ve been NXT UK women’s champion (well, Piper Niven should’ve, not “Doudrop”) and I like her, too, but I don’t think we should have her wearing a queen’s crown and doing that stupid finger twiddle thing while lip syncing her music during her entrance. They’ll probably go with Doudrop but I want it to be Vega, and I’ll lean more into that as it’s the more shocking choice that they’ve made so far.

RAW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
RK-Bro (c) vs. AJ Styles and Omos

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: RK-Bro wins.

Thoughts: The match should be fine, if not flat out good. However, it suffers from the “seen it before, multiple times” problem WWE ignores. There isn’t much more to it than that. It’s just a rematch and I don’t think the titles change hands.

HELL IN A CELL MATCH:
Edge vs. Seth Rollins

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Edge wins.

Thoughts: I would be so much more into this if, yes, again, we hadn’t already seen it twice in the past few events, and if Hell in a Cell was a rare special treat instead of an annual pay-per-view. I don’t expect it to be super violent or for them to do pretty much anything but hit each other with kendo sticks and possibly some chair shots to the stomach and back. Please prove me wrong, as I know both of these guys are capable of something great.

SINGLES MATCH:
Mansoor vs. Mustafa Ali

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Mansoor wins.

Thoughts: It’s Saudi Arabia. Mansoor gets a “big win” over his now former teammate. It’s treated like it’s the equivalent of winning the Royal Rumble, when it’s just a singles match against someone who has yet to be able to convince WWE to let him out of the midcard. The match should be decent and I like both of them, but I can’t go higher than Lukewarm.

NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH:
Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Goldberg wins.

Thoughts: Since this is No Holds Barred, that should open them up to a much better match than what they’d do otherwise. The feud isn’t something I’m hooked into and I just imagine Goldberg wins outright, now that Lashley’s lost his title and a lot of his momentum. But hey, I’m more interested to see what they plan to do for this and how Goldberg will be able to perform than I am about hearing political ads about Saudi Arabia.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Temperate

Thoughts: If you hadn’t seen any event in the past few months or weren’t watching the television episodes, this sounds like a much more interesting card. Having watched all that content, though, it’s mostly a series of rematches and things that won’t matter much before WWE transitions into the post-draft season. For the most part, I’m only interested in who wins the two crowns as I expect no title changes to take place.
