With WWE Elimination Chamber 2020 concluded, it’s time to look back on what happened and assess the damage, praise the positives and talk about what went down.

As I’ve been doing lately, I kept track of my reactions and thoughts throughout each segment tonight. There were some positive moments here and there with plenty of negatives, too.

Check them out below, as well as my regular Smack Talk Pay-Per-Viewpoint post-show podcast at the end of this post, which reviews the event in more detail.

Without further ado, here’s what was running through my mind during WWE Elimination Chamber 2020:

The Kickoff

  • R-Truth was excited to see his childhood hero John Cena fight Bray Wyatt tonight at WrestleMania. LOL. I love R-Truth.
  • Why in the hell is The Viking Raiders vs. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder a match added to this card? They haven’t had any interactions. They’re two babyface teams. Hawkins and Ryder should be doing something with Randy Orton. Erik and Ivar lost the tag titles and were pushed aside, lost to The O.C. and have tangentially fought AOP. There’s nothing here. You could have booked Elias against King Corbin, something with the SmackDown women’s division, Sheamus against Shorty G and Apollo Crews or anything that’s an actual story and it would have made more sense than this pointless thing.

Daniel Bryan vs. Drew Gulak

  • A tiny moment, but I loved Bryan doing a headstand and Gulak dropping him with a small piledriver of sorts. I miss the piledriver and that was so logical.
  • Nice job playing into the neck injury stuff.
  • Oh holy hell. Good lord, Bryan’s neck. Now I’m actually concerned. Don’t do that. Ever. As much as this match is good for playing into that, do not risk it. It’s not worth it.
  • Good opening match. I would have liked it to go a little longer, and I’d love to see a rematch down the line between these two. But jeez…take it easy on Bryan’s neck and don’t do anything too dangerous.

United States Championship Match: Andrade (c) vs. Humberto Carrillo

  • Can this be over already even though it hasn’t started yet?
  • It took a springboard hurricanrana off the top rope to wake up the audience.
  • Yaaaay! Andrade retained!! Now please don’t just do another damn rematch on Raw or at WrestleMania. This needs to be the end of this.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber Match: Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode vs. Heavy Machinery vs. John Morrison and The Miz vs. Lucha House Party vs. The New Day vs. The Usos

  • The Lucha House Party is fired up. That’s odd. Gran Metalik also looks reminiscent of Vega from Street Fighter with that new mask.
  • This is the first time I noticed the wheels on the cage door. Was that a thing before, or is that new?
  • Someone also fill me in on The New Day’s ring gear. I’m sure that’s a reference to something, but I’m drawing a blank.
  • “Jimmy Uso on spaghetti legs.” – I just got done eating pasta tonight and yesterday. Does that count as being on spaghetti legs, too?
  • Lince Dorado got lucky that his foot didn’t get caught in a weirder way.
  • I’m very surprised Lucha House Party has this much pizazz going on.
  • Who is whistling? That is so distracting.
  • Metalik’s hurricanrana off the top of the pod was sweet!
  • Dorado’s flip from the top of the cage was even better!! That’s going on my list for great spots of the year.
  • And, in typical WWE fashion, after doing a big move like that, Lucha House Party is eliminated. Ha. Good showing from these two, though. This is the best they’ve looked in a long while.
  • Tucker’s somersault off the pod is another awesome moment that I wasn’t expecting.
  • Speaking of unexpected, Otis crashing through the pod and falling out of the structure entirely was awesome.
  • Great fire-up moment for Tucker after that, and a logical elimination with Ziggler and Roode taking him out.
  • The New Day and The Usos working together (showcasing their respect for each other) to take out Ziggler and Roode, which has the crowd singing “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye” means this is working very, very well. This match is great.
  • They got me with the double pin. I thought that was going to end it.
  • I absolutely loved this match. It’s going on my list for Match of the Year potentials.

No Disqualification Match: AJ Styles vs. Aleister Black

  • Black Mass, Jerry, not Black Mask. Black Mask is the Batman villain that was poorly translated in the recent Birds of Prey film (like nearly every character in that movie, which is a subject for Fanboys Anonymous, instead).
  • Some good moments here and there. I enjoyed the meteora through the table, in particular.
  • I will never not enjoy hearing The Undertaker’s bell. That gooong is just the best.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits (c) vs. Seth Rollins and Murphy

  • That “Save us Friar Ferguson” sign in the crowd made me chuckle.
  • This match has been good, but I haven’t had anything to say about it.
  • The Viking Raiders should have only done this run-in spot and not the kickoff. That’s a waste of time that could have been used for someone else.
  • Popcorn doesn’t count as a disqualification, but it does look good.
  • Copy and paste from the last tag team match. This was fine, but unnecessary. I hate it when WWE thinks doing the same thing multiple times is an equivalent to adding layers to a story.

Intercontinental Championship 3-on-1 Handicap Match: Braun Strowman (c) vs. Cesaro, Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura

  • Jumped the gun on Braun Strowman’s music, eh?
  • Sami Zayn does a pretty good Strowman impression.
  • “International roll” is what they refer to as the lineup of commentary teams from other languages. That makes perfect sense and I’m glad we have a name to refer to that by, now.
  • Wow. I was fully confident Strowman would retain the title. Here’s hoping this is part of an actual story idea and not just that WWE is proving once again that they don’t think Strowman can hold a title (kind of like how they 4x had Sasha Banks lose her title on her first defense).
  • I also hope there’s a decent idea for WrestleMania. I was hoping for Sheamus or Corbin against Strowman, but now, I can’t think of what they’d do with Zayn and Strowman and company.

Raw Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender’s Elimination Chamber Match: Asuka vs. Liv Morgan vs. Natalya vs. Ruby Riott vs. Sarah Logan vs. Shayna Baszler

  • A pop-up headbutt on a pod is nowhere near as impressive as what happened in the tag team match. I hope they don’t think that’s on par and they follow it up with something better.
  • Sarah Logan’s crossbody was better, but even more interesting was overheard “Are you sure you’re alright?” and “Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah” and then “Natalya.” Nattie’s getting roughed up.
  • I’m not against the idea of Baszler eliminating everyone, but I don’t think this was the way to go about doing it. This seems disjointed and strange.
  • Zzzzzzz.
  • Well, that’s it. Take the easiest match to predict on the card and book it in the most boring way and have that end the night. That sapped my energy.
