WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Preview: Full Card, Match Predictions & More

Match Predictions and Heat Index Anticipation Levels

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland) vs. Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci)

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Imperium wins. (50/50 on this)

Thoughts: By the time this match takes place, Sheamus will have already had his rematch for the Intercontinental Championship against Gunther. I’m 100 percent certain he’ll fail to win the title. That doesn’t mean The Celtic Warrior will lose that match, though. I expect it to be a disqualification that leads to a brawl. Then, this should be a lot of fun with these six guys beating the piss out of each other. Ultimately, Imperium should stand tall, but there’s a chance The Brawling Brutes wins since it is a non-title situation. I’m looking forward to the fight, and I hope it is contested under Falls Count Anywhere rules, which would make it infinitely better than if they have to stay around the ring.

Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Bianca Belair wins.

Thoughts: Ladder matches are either awesome or an underwhelming mess. Very rarely are they anything else. Since both Bayley and Bianca Belair are great, I automatically bump them into the higher range by default. However, since we’ve seen these two feud for as long as they have, and there’s a good chance this becomes sloppy with Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and maybe even Shotzi, Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez getting involved, plus how I don’t think they’ll want to risk any injuries to Bayley or Belair, I have my fears this will be more on the lackluster side. I’m not expecting any noteworthy spots. Rather, just a series of the bare minimum and maybe one “wow” moment that we all forget about by November.

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Ronda Rousey wins.

Thoughts: No way Morgan wins this. She’s been booked poorly since winning the title in the first place. Her Money in the Bank cash-in was nearly lost, she retained over Rousey while tapping out and barely beat Shayna Baszler, too, who hasn’t exactly been the top ranked since joining the main roster in the first place. This being a generic No DQ match doesn’t spark my interest all that much. I’m sure they’ll just hit each other with kendo sticks and probably nothing else. Blah. Rousey wins the title back and Morgan gets a pat on the head for being champion in the record books, despite never being positioned as if she was qualified (a la how someone like Rey Mysterio was booked as champion).

Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Matt Riddle wins.

Thoughts: There’s something to be said that maybe, just maybe, having Daniel Cormier as the special guest referee of this match just prior to Crown Jewel might set up something for that show. Maybe he screws Riddle and we get Riddle vs. Cormier for Crown Jewel. Then again, it could be that he just prevents Rollins from cheating and maybe even fights The Visionary while Riddle moves on to something else. I’m excited for the Fight Pit, which has been fun in the past. It’s different than the rest of this card, too. Let’s go with Riddle winning, since he lost the previous match and it would be more embarrassing for him to lose a more MMA-focused battle here, too.

Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross (with Scarlett)

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Karrion Kross wins.

Thoughts: A strap match? I can’t say that would have been my go-to choice for this stipulation or the direction of this feud. Meh. I’m interested in McIntyre vs. Kross, but the strap is more of a limitation than a benefit, I worry. Hopefully, I’m wrong and they have some fun ideas for it. At the end of the day, I think this boils down to Kross needing to win since he has no major victories to his name on the main roster. This will help establish him. McIntyre could use another big win, but Kross is the priority, and with Scarlett ringside to help cheat, that’s a good enough excuse.

Edge vs. Finn Balor

Heat Index = Chilly
Prediction: Finn Balor wins.

Thoughts: Ehhhhh. On paper, Edge against Finn Balor in an I Quit match sounds like a fun time. I get it. But this feud’s gone on FOREVER. I’ve been over it for weeks. I’m not all that into anything The Judgment Day has been doing and I have no real interest in the outside elements to this like the Mysterio family drama, either. Whether or not AJ Styles gets involved is the biggest question mark for me, but I don’t even want that to happen to extend this feud, either. While it makes sense for Edge to win, I think there will be some sort of shenanigans that forces him to say “I quit” without actually being beaten into submission. Maybe Rhea Ripley threatens Beth Phoenix or something. Judgment Day has to win SOMETHING, right?

How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Temperate

Thoughts: This feels very much like an event WWE wants to half-ass. Virtually no titles on the line? Feuds that have gone on for a long time? Random gimmicks for most of it? Some of the matches should be fun to watch in and of themselves, but outside of that bubble, the overall show looks like a C-grade. The gimmicks are there to distract from the lack of substance.
