Notable Superstars Missing from the Card

Note: This is not a full list of everyone on the roster who is not scheduled for the show. It excludes jobbers, injured talent, people who wouldn’t have normally been expected to appear on the show for some fashion, those who are unable to perform due to travel restrictions and so on. It also should be noted that much of the information regarding COVID-19 pandemic regulations and precautions is not public knowledge, so there’s no telling if anyone on this list or elsewhere is not going to be on the card due to those factors.

Losers of the Men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournaments = The men and women who have lost their attempts to get to the finals of the Dusty Cup, for those who are wondering, are among the following and more: Adam Cole and Roderick Strong, Ariya Daivari and Tony Nese, Breezango, Jake Atlas and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, August Grey and Curt Stallion, Drake Maverick and Killian Dain, The Bollywood Boyz, Imperium, Lucha House Party, Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa, and Legado del Fantasma.

Losers of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament = Just the same as the men, some big names in the women’s division are left off this card because they failed to reach the finals of this tournament. Among those noteworthy names are: Aliyah and Jessi Kamea, Cora Jade and Gigi Dolin (though they are new and likely wouldn’t have a spot on the card above others anyway), Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter, Marina Shafir and Zoey Stark, and The Way’s Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.

Bronson Reed / Isaiah “Swerve” Scott = These two are feuding, but they already had a match together. A rematch wouldn’t mean anything noteworthy.

Rhea Ripley = At this point, she’s not yet technically been called up to the main roster. While she did take part in the Royal Rumble, others from NXT have done the same and weren’t called up at that point. Ripley’s just continuing her year of WWE saying “She’s the future…but let’s wait.”

Boa, Xia Li and company = Xia Li is killing it with her new gimmick. Boa looks kind of cool, even though we haven’t seen him do much. But I still have no idea if the mysterious figure is Mei Ying or Tian Sha or any of the dozen or so other names they’ve trademarked recently. Or is Tian Sha the name of the stable? Is it a force of nature at this point? What’s going on? Where is this all leading? Who will be their first feud? Why was the ‘I Luv You’ not listed in Ludwig’s records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn’t, who did? And where the hell was I? (Ten points to anyone who gets that reference without looking it up.)

Cameron Grimes = With all the money he’s made investing in “dog coin” and Gamestop, he might be too busy counting all his cash and not want to step in the ring. Based on this week’s episode, he hasn’t started a feud with anyone that would be worthy of putting on this card. Frankly, I’m surprised he didn’t make his return next week after TakeOver instead.

Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan (and technically, Pat McAfee) = Lorcan and Burch have a bit of a pass to not compete on this card. The Dusty Cup is to determine No. 1 contenders to the titles, so they have no challengers set until that tournament is finished. McAfee’s been off for a while as WWE doesn’t want to use him up, which makes sense. I’m expecting Lorcan and Burch to show up in some capacity on the card as backup for Pete Dunne, though.

The Undisputed ERA = Bobby Fish is injured, Kyle O’Reilly lost several title matches and isn’t fighting for the belt right now, and Cole and Strong lost in the Dusty tournament. It’s weird all four aren’t involved in this show in any capacity, but it also makes sense given what’s happened in recent weeks.

Tyler Rust = Malcolm Bivens is doing what he can to get Tyler Rust more screen time and attention. Sometimes, that works and Rust looks like a star. Other times, he seems like he just starts getting the ball rolling, but is pushed back down the hill. Since there’s no set feud going on right now for him, I’m okay with him being off this card. There were bigger fish to fry.

Velveteen Dream = It’s been a while since we’ve seen this guy, hasn’t it? My guess is between his injuries and his backstage issues, WWE has him on the back burner hoping things clear up and he can return at a different time and people will have forgotten and he’ll be healed up physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and politically.

The Way / Dexter Lumis = Strangely, Dexter Lumis has been hanging around the feud between Johnny Gargano and Kushida. While Austin Theory, Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell make sense to be ringside in support of Gargano, there isn’t a true alliance with Kushida and Lumis in a more formal sense. He may still pop up to help settle the outside interference, but it’s not advertised, at least.
