The track record is there and the temptation to have him appear on the pre-show and demand a match, only to lose, is just too great. Who he ends up facing, though, is completely up in the air. It could be any number of people on this list, although if I were to venture a guess, I’d say Sami Zayn or Neville will be given the honor of putting down the One Man Band on the show.
Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan
It hasn’t been a good month or so for The Wyatt Family, which has seen its numbers dwindle down to just two who can’t find themselves on the SummerSlam card. For Erick Rowan not to be wrestling is one thing, but Bray Wyatt’s a different story.
Some reports claim that he is suffering from yet another injury—something that would do him no favors in the fight for legitimacy on SmackDown—but if that isn’t true and WWE just had nothing in mind for him, that’s even worse. There are so few people on the blue brand and Wyatt is someone who stands out among most of the rest. If even someone at his level isn’t deemed important enough to have a spot on SummerSlam’s lineup, it shows that WWE doesn’t value SmackDown itself as anything more than the B-show we’ve criticized it being for years.
Kalisto / Baron Corbin
Both Kalisto and Baron Corbin have been doing jack, and it seems as though the only course of action WWE’s taken to correct this is to imply that there’s still beef between the two. If you can call this a feud, it’s being generous, as they’ve barely done anything and there’s no real story behind it, either.
These two both are subject to the plague in WWE where you can get a push and then fade into obscurity when the company doesn’t know what direction to point you to. Kalisto had two utterly pointless United States Championship reigns this year and Baron Corbin won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Since they haven’t been injured or had any suspensions, there’s no excuse for why they aren’t bigger stars right now compared to what they were months ago. You’re supposed to go up the ladder, not fall down.
Would you like to see any of these superstars incorporated into the SummerSlam card in some way? Where would you put them in the lineup? Are there any wrestlers not mentioned who should have made the list?
