At WWE Worlds Collide 2019, superstars from NXT, NXT UK and 205 Live will clash in a special 15-man tournament that took place at Royal Rumble Axxess with the winner receiving a title shot for any brand of his choosing!

Starting today at 12 p.m. ET, the opening rounds of the tournament will stream across WWE.com, the WWE app and WWE’s social media (YouTube, Facebook and Twitter). Later, at 8 p.m. ET, a battle royal and the later rounds of the tournament will stream on the WWE Network.

As this goes down, this post will be providing live results as well as my initial impressions and reactions throughout each match, followed by an eventual review and post-show recap podcast when it’s all said and done.

If you want to skip straight to spoilers, have at it, but I invite everyone to chat it up in the comments and watch things unfold as WWE intended us to.

First-Round Match: Drew Gulak vs. Mark Andrews

REACTIONS:

  • It’s beyond stupid to air the first round and then, 8 hours later, air the battle royal that determines the first round. Why WWE thought this was a good idea is beyond me. If anything, they should have had the battle royal at noon instead.
  • The lighting is extremely dark for the crowd. My guess is that was done to block out how small the audience really was, as remember, this is Royal Rumble Axxess, which supposedly wasn’t super packed.
  • Well, Gulak winning with that random pin was kind of meh.

RESULT: Drew Gulak wins by pinfall.

First-Round Match: Travis Banks vs. Keith Lee

REACTIONS:

  • “Remember, it was that 15-man battle royal that started this tournament…” again, maybe anyone would remember that if you had aired that first. You don’t go with B, A, C.
  • I dig Keith Lee’s new music. I think this is the first time we’re hearing it. It seems more like a heel should have it, though. What do you think?
  • After getting that heelish feel from Lee’s music, it’s curious why they purposely made Banks play the heel at the start of this.
  • Glorified squash.

RESULT: Keith Lee wins by pinfall.

First-Round Match: Adam Cole vs. Shane Thorne

REACTIONS:

  • I’m not surprised at all that Shane Thorne is stuck in limbo of being both a heel and a babyface jobber until they figure out something else for him. That’s exactly the role I was expecting for him once Nick Miller left. I don’t think he’s finding himself for at least another few months post-Mania.
  • And my stream is frozen on WWE.com and only seems to want to air up until the beginning of Thorne’s entrance, but Facebook is working fine. If you’re having the same trouble, load it up on Facebook.
  • Good contest, despite the obvious disparity between who would win and who was there just to lose.

RESULT: Adam Cole wins by pinfall

First-Round Match: TJP vs. Dominik Dijakovic

REACTIONS:

  • If WWE isn’t going to utilize TJP’s talents on 205 Live, he really needs to just go to NXT or Raw or SmackDown and be in the midcard there like Mustafa Ali. He’s too good to be ignored like he’s been the past year.
  • That being said, you can’t put him up against a guy like Dominik Dijakovic, who is in the midst of a monster push, and expect him to win.
  • And it seems they still aren’t sure how they want to pronounce “Dijakovic” as I’ve heard DiJAKovic, DiJAKovich, DijaKOvich, DijaKOvic…
  • By default, TJP is the babyface in this match to the crowd, just by being the smaller guy.
  • This match is going a lot longer than I expected it to, and it seems the audience agrees, as each time TJP kicks out, they get increasingly into it.

RESULT: Dominik Dijakovic wins by pinfall

First-Round Match: Cedric Alexander vs. Tyler Bate

REACTIONS:

  • Speaking of someone who should leave 205 Live to find new success on NXT or the main roster, Cedric Alexander is certainly in that same range. I’d like to see him in the midcard on one of those three brands or as half of a tag team. Not sure who I’d like him to tag with, though.
  • Matches like this are what makes these kind of special events fun, as Alexander and Bate are on separate shows and both are babyfaces, so it’s interesting to see them lock up instead of just going with Bate beating TJP and Dijakovic beating Alexander to set up the same quarterfinal situation.
  • Not too much to say other than that these guys are talented and know how to put on a good match.

RESULT: Tyler Bate wins by pinfall

First-Round Match: Tony Nese vs. Velveteen Dream

REACTIONS:

  • Time to repeat myself, but Tony Nese is another guy that should go to NXT or be in a tag team on the main roster if he’s got nothing better to do at the moment on 205 Live. Rosters can share. I hope he’s involved in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic or something.
  • Velveteen Dream is very much toned down. I guess it’s not worth getting all dolled up for such a small crowd, right?
  • These two had decent chemistry together. Further proof of how flexibility between rosters is a good thing.

RESULT: Velveteen Dream wins by pinfall.

Quarterfinals Match: Keith Lee vs. Adam Cole

REACTIONS:

  • Um…what about Humberto Carrillo against Zack Gibson? The planning around airing this whole tournament has been such a shit show.
  • This could be a main event on NXT. For that matter, if Lee had been given a Matt Riddle style push, instead of just being brought in as a somewhat normal level guy, these two could have been fighting on a TakeOver event for the North American Championship or something along those lines.

RESULT: Adam Cole wins by pinfall.

Quarterfinals Match: Dominik Dijakovic vs. Tyler Bate

REACTIONS:

  • Yup, just skipping over Carrillo and Gibson. So weird.
  • If I didn’t already know the results (which of course, spoilers really make it hard to get as into these events…hint hint, WWE…maybe consider airing as many things live as possible…) I would be thinking this clearly goes to Dijakovic, rather than Bate. Since I know Bate wins, I’m not paying as much attention as I normally would.
  • Very curious why they went with Bate winning. For that matter, why they put Dijakovic into the tournament at all if they knew he wasn’t going to win. At least if he had made it to the finals and lost there, that would have made more sense to me. Realistically, though, Dijakovic’s spot could have gone to any other heel instead, like Cezar Bononi.

RESULT: Tyler Bate wins by pinfall

Quarterfinals Match: Humberto Carrillo vs. Velveteen Dream

REACTIONS:

  • No acknowledgment of the Zack Gibson match.
  • I feel like Carrillo’s role in WWE right now is to be a guy who loses everything, looks bland in his presentation, and doesn’t find any way in any match to stand out, but the commentators have to tout that he’s amazing and the future. How is this going to work out well for him? His career is dead already and not getting any better.
  • “We’ve seen Carrillo pull this off before” – no you haven’t. See, that’s why Velveteen Dream stopped him twice and then beat him.

RESULT: Velveteen Dream wins by pinfall.
