Should Britt Baker Join WWE If She Leaves AEW? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

The other day, I asked a QOTD about whether or not WWE should bring Saraya into the fold for Evolution. Well, let’s focus on another woman and the potential of joining the WWE roster who has also been a talking point this week: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.

After such an extended absence and so many problems in recent years within All Elite Wrestling, speculation ramped up again over the past few days that Baker could be looking for a way out of the company, even though she’s still locked into her contract.

Some reports have stated that there isn’t a lot of truth to it, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and given how nearly every other exit from AEW has taken place so far, this has all the makings of virtually the same story playing out where eventually, she will just be gone from the roster page some random day, and we’ll be talking about where she goes next.

Obviously, you would assume if she wants to continue wrestling at all, she would want to go to World Wrestling Entertainment—the even bigger brand that most people dream of being employed by, where she could boost her image and make even more money.

Whether or not WWE would be interested in signing her, though, is another story. It has to be mutual, and we can’t know that. As fans, we can only give our opinions on if we think it’s a good idea for the company and for the performer themselves.

So that’s what we’re doing here! My question for you today is “If you were WWE, would you sign Britt Baker? If you were Britt Baker, would you go to WWE? Is this a match made in heaven, or would this be a mistake on either or both sides?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

Ehhhhh….I don’t know. If I were answering this question before AEW started, or even within the first year or two, I would have said WWE should absolutely snatch her up, without a doubt.

But then, I saw more of her matches and more of her flaws, and over time, my opinion went from “she’s one of the biggest stars with some of the most potential who could really benefit from the WWE Performance Center and a run through NXT” to “maybe she was a bigger fish in a smaller pond and reached her zenith at a lower level than I had originally thought.”

I don’t think at this point in her career that her best matches are ahead of her, either. It would surprise me if she wrestled next and was somehow better than we’ve seen her before. The more she gets banged up and the older she gets, and the more ring rust sets in, the harder it is to somehow find a new resurgence.

So is it worth WWE to invest in her, given her age (34—by no means ancient, but when they have 20 year olds in NXT, that’s a big gap) and her body of work? Possibly, if she can be signed at a cheap enough price.

But that price also comes with baggage, and that may be the real killer to this potential partnership.

I certainly don’t know the ins and outs of what she’s been involved with backstage in AEW, and I wouldn’t claim to be an expert on that topic. She and the people involved know, and I’m just a fan reading maybe verifiable information through second-hand sources, that could be completely unfounded, but at least should be taken with a grain of salt.

But normally, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and enough reports have come out about rubbing people the wrong way, having issues with talent and management, and just in general being off television for so long that there must be SOMETHING to all of this buzz, right?

And true, problematic people have had some great turnarounds, or they’ve been great assets to companies despite the negativity they bring to the table. Look at Shawn Michaels in his early career, or CM Punk right now. For all we know, even if issues in AEW are true, Baker could be a total sweetheart and a beacon of company pride in WWE. I mean, she said it herself with her post about perceived value being different depending on your environment. A “bad employee” at one job could be “the best employee” at another and never change their personality.

But if I’m WWE, I’m vetting the hell out of those stories and I’m not taking the risk if I see that there’s one there. I want to nab MJF when his contract is up, and if they have any issues, I’m prioritizing that future possibility over signing Baker. I’m not going to be willing to sign her for a high price, but if I can hire her cheap enough to justify the risk, then by all means, she could be slotted into NXT and let’s see what she’s got to offer under the WWE umbrella.

As far as a prediction is concerned, at this very moment, I lean more toward the idea that her contract will eventually run out and she’ll just focus on dentistry, rather than continue to wrestle, let alone get signed by WWE. I’ve been wrong before, though, so I guess we’ll find out whenever it gets closer to when her contract is up.
