Were Jasper Troy & Tyra Mae Steele The Right Winners For WWE LFG? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Season 1 of LFG is in the bag, and The Undertaker has won the coach’s title while Jasper Troy and Tyra Mae Steele won the “NXT contracts” part of the competition.

Others from the show are going to apparently continue on with season 2, while some new names will be added to the mix, and some of the talent that didn’t win have been seen on television anyway.

My question for you today is “Do you think Steele and Troy were the rightful winners, or should Zena Sterling and Shiloh Hill or possibly others have won instead?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

I’m fine with this, as both are justifiable winners, though I’d have probably gone with Zena over Tyra. Hill was a close call, too, as he’s kind of on par with Troy and better in some ways, while losing out in some other ones. That’s kind of a wash, almost.

The way I see it, it ultimately doesn’t matter much. WWE isn’t going to stop using Shiloh Hill after he’s wrestled more than almost anyone in the group, male or female. Likewise, they were too enamored with Zena Sterling to just boot her out of this. That’s one downfall of LFG, is that when you use people already signed, the concept of an NXT contract being the goal gets thrown out the window as they’re winning something they already have.

The benefit, though, is being able to bring them in and immediately say to the audience “this person won a competition and you should care about them.” Now, that’s where I say Steele didn’t need it, as she already has the Olympic gold medalist angle. Sterling has nothing. At least Troy and Hill are on equal footing with that one.

I did enjoy LFG more than I’m enjoying WWE EVOLVE, I’ll say that. The format of the show is more interesting to me than the minor leagues of the minor leagues. But I think for it to be more interesting as a competition, it needs to be more like Tough Enough where the people aren’t already signed and it can be a legitimate competition and less of a scripted thing.

Knowing it’s scripted, I’m cool with Troy winning in particular, as he’s got the sentimental story. Then again, if they debut him more properly on NXT as a babyface, I think that will be kind of difficult given his size, so that might go right out the window and I’ll regret saying that.
