Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
WWE Backlash is set to go down today at 7pm ET (with a pre-show at 5pm), which means there’s just enough time to get in one last round of predictions before all the action takes place.
My question for you today is “Who do you think will win at WWE Backlash 2025?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Gunther vs. Pat McAfee
The only way McAfee wins this is if the whole idea here is to humiliate Gunther and make him flip out for his 2 recent embarrassments so that he destroys McAfee and goes over the limit. I’m not a fan of that, though, as I don’t see the point in bringing Gunther down a peg. I never would have had him tap out at WrestleMania to begin with.
Instead, I’m hoping at least that Gunther squashes McAfee and we get the same end result of him going overboard, sending McAfee away for a while (or for good) and it can be the start of rehabbing The Ring General to get back on track.
Men’s Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta
Dirty Dom absolutely needs to retain the title. That’s not a knock on Penta. He’s great. At some point, he should hold the Intercontinental Championship. But it’s FAR too early for Mysterio to lose this belt when there are so many more fun things to do with him. He hasn’t even defended it against Finn Balor yet, for crying out loud.
I mentioned in yesterday’s EWN Question of the Day that I could see a scenario here where Jeff Cobb comes out, interferes, helps Dom retain, and joins The Judgment Day so that they not only have a heavy in the group again (after Damian Priest’s exit), but that it can be another point of contention for Balor to be upset that he wasn’t consulted, leading to his exit. Whether or not Cobb is involved or it’s just the other members of The Judgment Day who costs Penta, I do think Mysterio has to walk out with the title.
United States Championship Fatal 4-Way: Jacob Fatu (c) vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre vs. LA Knight
Another belt I don’t think is changing hands here is the US title. Just like Mysterio, Jacob Fatu just won this at WrestleMania, and people want to see him defend it and have a solid reign.
There’s more of a chance that this title changes hands than Mysterio’s, though, I’ll say that. It’s entirely possible Solo Sikoa tries to help out, makes a mistake, and one of the other three guys pins one of the other three guys, so Fatu drops the belt without actually losing. That could be the final nail in the coffin to get that Fatu/Sikoa feud started.
I’d rather see Sikoa vs. Fatu for the title, though, so I’m hoping it’s as simple as Fatu getting the win.
Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch
This title, on the other hand, I do think is changing hands. I’m wholeheartedly walking into this event already prepping an article to publish for that breaking news.
Valkyria’s held it long enough. Lynch is a great person to drop it to without looking weak. The Man is also going to elevate the title by holding it, and whoever beats her will look better for it. It’ll be good to see her have a championship without having to overtake Iyo Sky for the Women’s World Championship.
I’m not going to be thrilled with the Lynch vs. Bayley feud that comes out of this, though, so I hope that’s relatively quick and we can move on to something new.
Undisputed WWE Championship: John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton
Of course, there is no way John Cena is losing his title on the first defense. As much as he has a storied rivalry with Randy Orton, it’s not the time, nor is The Viper the guy to beat him for it.
It’ll be interesting to see how the finish goes down. I’d lean toward Cena winning through a low blow or something that we’ve naturally never seen him do, but would have seen Orton do plenty times when they were at odds with each other and the dynamics were different.
