Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day! Tonight on AEW Dynamite, there will be a three-way between Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong to determine one of the spots in the AEW All In Casino Gauntlet Match.
My question for you today is “Who do you think will/should win that match?”
Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.
As far as my answer…
Update: I may have misconstrued the idea of this match. Check below for an addendum.
Frankly, I’m curious as to how all three of these guys aren’t in the match. I know there are a TON of names who can fill in spots justifiably, and not everyone will be able to make it onto the card, but they’re all three names that I would have put quite a bit of stock in potentially competing here.
My gut tells me Kyle O’Reilly and Orange Cassidy are going to be overlooked, as they’ll instead be added to some pre-show multi-man tag team Conglomeration bout. Of course, the same could be true about Roderick Strong teaming with The Undisputed Kingdom, but I think it’s easier to write off Matt Taven and Mike Bennett as not participating in comparison to O’Reilly and Cassidy—especially Cassidy.
To be honest, with all the matches they’ve been having opposite Strong and some random others, maybe that’s off the table, too, and I’m overthinking things. If that’s the case, then this should just go to Cassidy. At the very least, if I were told by Tony Khan that there weren’t any plans to put any of these three guys on the card unless one of them were to win this, then by all means, I’d prioritize booking Cassidy. The other two are great, but OC is the biggest star of the bunch.
I’m willing to bet there will be at least one surprise, be it Ricochet, Dijak, Mustafa Ali, Bobby Lashley, or someone else, the safe bet is that the winner won’t be someone outside the roster. It is for a title shot, after all, and although we don’t yet know (as far as I’m aware) when that title match will go down, I always think it’s better to stack a contender’s bout with as many possible winners as can be. If the match is set for All Out, then of course, none of them will win. But if it can happen on Dynamite, I’d at least consider Cassidy a possibility.
Therefore, if I’m answering this with who I think should win, I go with Cassidy. If I go with who I think will win, I’m leaning toward Strong, with O’Reilly and Cassidy being booked elsewhere in a tag team match on the Zero Hour.
Addendum: If this actually isn’t for just one of these guys to qualify, and the others are left out of the match, but more so who gets the #1 spot and the others are left to enter at #2 and onward, then that ultimately renders a lot of what I’ve said moot. At that point, if they’re all involved, it’s just a matter of booking the other people in order in whatever the most fun way you can think of. Without knowing the others participating in the match, it becomes impossible to judge who should go first, second, etc. What’s interesting about these types of matches and even the Royal Rumble, is that the #2 spot is the same as #1. The first person has zero advantage or disadvantage over the second, since they both start the match at the same time. This isn’t even an elimination match to try to determine if it would be better to start with Strong vs. O’Reilly, have Strong get a pin, then have Cassidy come out next. I’d actually prefer a Casino Battle Royale, if I’m being honest.
