Will WWE give Seth Rollins a Universal Title Match at SummerSlam?

With Seth Rollins losing to Dolph Ziggler and failing to re-capture the Intercontinental Championship, this could be a sign that the WWE will again put him in the title picture.

Since becoming the Intercontinental Champion at Wrestlemania 34 in April, Rollins has become a fighting champion and has successfully defended his title against some of the top names in the roster, like the Miz, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and Elias, among others.

His unexpected defeat to Ziggler, though, which put an end to his reign as the Intercontinental Champion, and his unsuccessful effort to reclaim the title a week later, due to Drew McIntyre’s interference, showed that the creative team may have in mind to make Rollins the face of the company.

Following his back-to-back losses to Ziggler, the “Kingslayer” have two options: either to continue his feud with the new champion and McIntyre or to convince RAW General Manager, Kurt Angle, that he deserves to be named the number one contender for Brock Lesnar’s Universal Title.

Rollins has proved he has the talent and skills (both wrestling and microphone ones) to become the face of the company, so it is likely the WWE will give him a title match in the near future.

In addition, it may be a great opportunity for the “Architect” to put an end to his feud with the “Beast Incarnate”, which started back in 2015, but was interrupted by the Undertaker at “Battleground” a few months later.

Rollins has shown he can beat Lesnar, so a match between the two will certainly steal the show at Summerslam, while it could also be the Beast’s final appearance in a WWE ring.

In addition, it may be better for the company to make Rollins the champion instead of Roman Reigns, who is not so popular among the WWE Universe.

The “Big Dog” was scheduled to become the champion, but he lost twice to Lesnar at Wrestlemania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble, respectively, and it’s still not clear whether he will be granted another title match.

However, if the WWE aims to keep “pushing” Reigns, it might be wiser to have Rollins become the champion and defend the title against the “Big Dog”, with Rollins as babyface and Reigns as a heel.

Last but not least, the “Kingslayer” hasn’t been seen in the Universal Title picture for a very long time, as he was fighting either for the Tag Team Championship or the Intercontinental one.

For the aforementioned reasons, I believe Seth Rollins could be the perfect opponent for Brock Lesnar at Summerslam and the one that could beat him to become the new Universal Champion.

That said, the company should now decide on whether they will proceed with Rollins fighting with McIntyre and Ziggler (with Reigns as his partner) or the creative team will put him again in the title picture and have him challenge Lesnar for the title at Summerslam.
