AEW Double or Nothing 2023

AEW Double or Nothing 2023

Date:
May 28, 2023
Location:
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada

Highlights:

  • The show hyped two main events with the Anarchy In The Arena match between the BCC & The Elite taking precedence over the four-way AEW World Championship match.
  • During the Anarchy In The Arena match, Don Callis appeared with Konosuke Takeshita to cost Kenny Omega and The Elite the chance of beating the BCC.
  • After Jade Cargill set a new record winning streak of 60-0 by defeating Taya Valkyrie, her manager Mark Sterling stated they would take on anyone at any time. Kris Statlander returned after many months of inactivity due to injury and accepted the open challenge. She defeated Cargill in less than a minute to claim her first AEW Championship.
  • Jamie Hayter went into her title defense injured and attacked by The Outcasts, which helped Toni Storm to claim victory and become the first two-time AEW Women’s Champion.
  • The House Of Black had offered an open challenge in an Open House Rules match for several weeks. The Acclaimed stated their intent on the preceding episode of Rampage, but it was not officially announced til they entered.
  • During FTR’s title defense against Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal, Karen Jarrett began feuding with referee Aubrey Edwards by smashing her over the head with a guitar.
  • Sabu served as a special guest enforcer during the unsanctioned match between Adam Cole & Chris Jericho, although he showed bias by helping Cole. There was plenty of other interference by Dr. Britt Baker & Saraya. Aubrey Edwards stopped the match after Adam Cole repeatedly punched Chris Jericho in the head with a steel chain wrapped around his hand.
  • From Wiki: Double or Nothing was held on the same day as NXT Battleground, a livestreaming event produced by WWE for its developmental brand, NXT. This marked the first time since April 1989 that two major promotions produced major events head-to-head, after WWE’s WrestleMania V and World Championship Wrestling’s Clash of the Champions VI.
