Adam Cole once was one of the pillars of Triple H’s WWE NXT. He became NXT Champion after defeating Johnny Gargano at NXT TakerOver: XXV and held onto the championship for 403 days. Cole also was heavily praised by both Triple H and Shawn Michaels, who helped mentor Cole during his tenure on the black and gold brand. Although Cole has since departed WWE, he still keeps in touch with the guys who helped him for so long.
During a recent episode of “The Kurt Angle Show,” the leader of The Undisputed Elite revealed what his current relationship is like with both HHH and HBK.
“I still, to this day, keep in conversation, in touch with both of them. All of it is just, ‘Hey, how are you? Thinking of you, wishing you the best.’ That type of thing.”
Before Cole departed from WWE, he was heavily rumored to join the main roster. There were reports of Vince McMahon meeting with Cole about his role on either RAW or SmackDown. When asked about the main roster, Cole stated that Triple H and Michaels weren’t so focused on him leaving NXT but instead making the black and gold brand the best it could be.
“There wasn’t a huge discussion from either of them about going to Raw or SmackDown. Not as in it was an uncomfortable thing to talk about, but I guess the way I’ll put it is there really was a core group of guys in NXT that was so laser-focused on that one thing, making NXT special. I think they knew and they, themselves weren’t even thinking about it as well.”
Cole would go on to make his debut in AEW at the All Out PPV last year. He recently wrestled at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Sadly for the leader of The Undisputed Elite, he not only walked away without the championship but also reportedly suffered an injury (concussion).
