A spokesperson from All Elite Wrestling has issued an apology and explanation after Cody Rhodes took part in a chant using a derogatory word at AAA TripleMania XVII last month.
During the event, Cody, Psycho Clown, and Cain Velazquez teamed together. After the conclusion of the match they led the crowd in a “puto” chant. Psycho Clown regularly uses the chant during his matches and AAA events. The chant is criticized because it’s viewed as derogatory and homophobic.
You can read the official statement was given to SB Nation’s Out Sports by AEW below:
“Cody joined his teammates at AAA TripleMania for what he understood to be their post-match tradition in Mexico and was unaware of any negative connotations. Certainly the last thing Cody would want to do is to hurt or offend anyone, anywhere.”
