AEW News – AEW At The Emmys, NJPW Talents Set For Forbidden Door, Don Callis

The Emmy Awards have announced this year’s nomination ballets and AEW is listed in two categories.

AEW Dynamite is listed under Outstanding Structured Reality Program, while AEW All Access is listed under Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. These are just the nomination ballots and neither Dynamite nor All Access are actually nominated yet.

The Emmy Awards will air on September 18 on FOX.

As we previously reported here on eWn, Minoru Suzuki and Tomohiro Ishii are both planned to compete at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II. Neither has been officially announced for the show yet, but Suzuki is set to wrestle on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Fightful Select is reporting that Nick Wayne will sign a contract with AEW following his 18th birthday next month. Plans for Wayne were pitched as early as the spring and they include his debut and follow-up programs.

A media call with AEW President Tony Khan is scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET.

Speaking on a recent edition of the “Talk is Jericho” podcast, Don Callis discussed creating his own ‘family’ in AEW in order to take the fight to The Elite. Callis took on Konosuke Takeshita as a protégé following his betrayal of Kenny Omega. Callis said,

“If there’s anything left of The Elite after the BCC get done with them, the Don Callis Family is going to clean up the mess. I have no choice. For our own personal safety. The Elite have made it clear, from rumors and things that I hear in the dressing room. I pay a lot of people here. I get information. Our buddy Dr. Luther is a backstage guy, I’ve known him a lot longer than I’ve known you. You don’t think I don’t hear things, Chris? They’re looking to destroy us because we embarrassed Kenny Omega. I have no choice, for our own protection, for the protection of [Takeshita’s] stellar career that is going to take place under me, that we have to have at least even numbers to combat this. I had a family with one member, Kenny Omega, and it blew up in my face. I’m not going to put myself in that situation again. I’m going to have a big family. Multiple family members. They’re not just going to be anybody. They are going to be the types of athletes that are on the same level or higher than Kenny Omega, and we’re going to take care of business.”
