AEW’s Brian Cage will seemingly be staying with the company after they reportedly chose to renew his contract.
Cage, a former FTW Champion, hasn’t competed for AEW since Chris Jericho’s ‘Rock N Wrestling Rager At Sea‘ cruise in October 2021.
Fightful Select reports that AEW has picked up an additional one-year option on Cage’s contract, with Cage himself said to have been surprised by the development.
He and other members of the AEW roster expected that AEW would simply let his current contract expire.
Word spread backstage during this week’s Dynamite that Cage had informed those closest to him that AEW picked up the one-year option on his contract.
Last year, Cage’s wife Melissa Santos publicly bashed the company for not using her husband more, earning them both heat in AEW.
AEW has not publicly confirmed the optional renewal at this time.
