Action Andretti scored a huge win over Chris Jericho this week, but this angle was something AEW had in the pipeline years earlier.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Andretti got a shocking win over Jericho, and it was announced after the match that he has signed with Tony Khan’s promotion.

During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW had plans in 2020 for Jungle Boy to get a similar upset win over Jericho. He said,

“He was going to do something similar with Jungle Boy, but he didn’t want to do it with no crowds. By the time the crowd came back, the whole dynamic had changed and he was in different places and it just didn’t fit.”

Meltzer added that by the time fans had returned, the feeling in AEW was that Jungle Boy was established, and the win over Jericho would not have been seen as a huge upset.

Jungle Boy recently competed at AEW Full Gear 2022, defeating his former tag team partner Luchasaurus in a steel cage match.
