Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful is reporting that the belief among AEW talent is that Malakai Black has been released although AEW has not officially announced his departure.
It was previously reported by Raj Giri that Black requested his release but it was denied at the time.
“AEW talent are of the belief that Malakai Black was granted his conditional release from AEW.” Sapp wrote on Twitter. “His original request for release was denied. We’ve reached out to AEW for official word, but haven’t heard back. Anything personal/mental health related is not my business and will not be covered. Sending the fella the best. He’s such an amazing performer.”
Giri wrote the following about the reason why Black wanted out of AEW: “I heard an AEW star requested their release, and follow up sources indicate it was Malakai Black. He reportedly has repeatedly shown concerns about his mental health due to personal life and demoralization due to the booking and handling of his character.”
Black finished up with AEW in his last match this past Sunday at All Out when House of Black lost to Sting, Miro, and Darby Allin.
Black did recently meet with AEW President Tony Khan to try to convince him to stay.
