Miro was released from AEW on Monday, making him eligible to join any wrestling promotion he chooses.
As we’ve reported here on eWn, WWE is interested in bringing Miro back, as he previously worked there before transitioning to AEW in 2020.
The Redeemer and AEW had “creative differences” and did not want to lose, which resulted in his limited TV time.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has shared more details on Miro’s AEW departure.
Miro originally signed a lucrative seven-figure deal with AEW in September 2020, which was set to expire in spring 2022. He later signed a four-year extension, which kept him under contract until spring 2026.
Miro had referenced his then-wife, CJ Perry, several times before she ultimately joined AEW.
At one point in 2022, WWE reached out to Perry for a return, but she and Miro, influenced by a mentor, felt better off working together.
Miro persuaded Tony Khan to hire Perry, creating a storyline in which they would be apart initially but eventually reunite to revive their former WWE dynamic as Rusev and Lana.
Perry later turned on Andrade and aligned herself with Miro at Worlds End 2023, but both thereafter disappeared from television. At that time, Miro was reportedly injured and returned to Bulgaria for a few months.
The WON notes that Miro and Perry were “under the impression” they would reunite on-screen and get pushed to the top, which eventually didn’t happen.
Those close to Miro said he frequently pitched storylines for himself and Perry. However, these pitches went unacknowledged, and Perry was eventually released from AEW.
In August 2024, Miro expressed his desire to leave AEW and sought his release. There had been no talk of The Redeemer returning to storylines for several months.
