FTW Champion Chris Jericho is quite attuned to public sentiment and discussions about him online. It seems that he is incorporating fan criticisms into his recent storyline, particularly referencing his victory over HOOK for the FTW Title at AEW Dynasty 2024.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Jericho was prepared for the strong boos, “please retire,” and “go home Jericho, go home” chants he received at AEW Dynasty last month. Sources within AEW and individuals close to Jericho indicated that the audience’s reaction at the event closely aligned with Jericho’s expectations, which he had communicated to them the previous week.
Also, several wrestlers reportedly wondered how Jericho smartened up to the “Jericho Vortex” phrase, which he has recently been using in his promos. The phrase was previously used in online discussions regarding wrestlers getting roped into feuding or working with Jericho, essentially being sucked into the “Jericho Vortex.”
It’s possible that Jericho was made aware of The Learning Tree stable in TNA Wrestling beforehand, as he recently formed a new faction called The Learning Tree with Big Bill. In addition, Richard Holliday previously used the term “Rarified Air,” but it’s unclear whether Jericho was made aware of both being used in wrestling beforehand.
It has been observed that Jericho’s recent adjustments to the FTW Title have taken many by surprise, including Taz, the original holder of the FTW Championship. These changes reportedly caught many within AEW off guard. The FTW Title currently used in AEW is the same one previously held by Taz in ECW.
