The situation surrounding Rey Fenix and AEW continues to be tense, with the luchador expressing dissatisfaction over his treatment by the company.
Fenix posted a series of tweets over the weekend where he spoke out about “inhumane treatment” and being “ignored” for months when he needed medical attention. These comments have drawn attention, and Fightful Select is reporting that AEW is refusing to provide an update on the situation. AEW has stated that they cannot comment on medical claims specifically.
Inside AEW, reactions to Fenix’s tweets have been mixed. Some sources expressed surprise, with one person acknowledging communication issues between Fenix and AEW but not finding the claims of “inhumane” treatment credible. One source said Fenix had previously taken issue with a doctor who hadn’t cleared him, but the full context of that issue isn’t clear.
Meanwhile, another source familiar with the situation outright denied Fenix’s claims, suggesting that AEW was frustrated by reports of the Lucha Bros negotiating with WWE while still under contract. This source implied that someone might be attempting to present themselves in a more favorable light in regard to the situation.
As far as Fenix’s contract status is concerned, he is currently under contract with AEW through 2025, with additional time added due to injury-related absences. Penta, his brother and tag team partner, is currently a free agent.
Finally, there has been speculation about Fenix possibly being granted an early release, though no concrete developments have occurred. Some AEW sources fear that whatever outcome arises may set an undesirable precedent within the company.
