WWE Hall of Famer and AEW star Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts is saddened to see talent be forced to recite scripted promos written for them.

For years, wrestling fans have often criticized the concept of talent being forced to learn promos, instead of being able to come up with their own ideas.

On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Roberts reflected on his ‘Avarice’ promo from WrestleMania 6 and compared things to today. He said,

“Nobody had [cut a promo like that before.] Nobody has and I don’t think they ever will. They’ve taken that out of their hands these days. They’ve got stuff written for them. It’s a shame.”

While the issues of scripted promos have typically been with WWE, talent have reportedly been granted a lot more creative freedom over the past year.

WWE’s current creative team is led by Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque who replaced Vince McMahon after the latter parted ways with WWE in January 2024.
