CM Punk only has himself to blame for the brawl at AEW All In: London 2023 that led to his exit from the promotion, according to Jim Ross.
The brawl between Punk and Jack Perry marked Punk’s second time fighting backstage at an AEW event, less than a year after All Out 2022.
During an appearance on the “Inside the Ropes” podcast, Ross highlighted that Punk is a friend of his but didn’t hold back in his assessment. He said,
“Phil Brooks is a great friend of mine. We still communicate semi-regularly. Good dude. He was wrong that day by continuing to stand there and push the buttons. I gotta believe that Jack Perry was scared s*******. Now, he wouldn’t say that. He wouldn’t admit that, ’cause that’s not macho. But, you know, come on.”
Ross added that the matter was “embarrassing” for AEW and said that if he was in charge, he would have stopped it right away.
The ’embarrassing’ fight was later broadcast by AEW in April 2024 following Punk sharing his criticism of AEW during an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show.”
After a week-long suspension, Punk was fired from AEW and has since returned to WWE where he has remained incident-free.
