In a recent edition of her “Mone Mag” newsletter, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone reflected on her NJPW debut in 2023.

You can check out some highlights from her newsletter below:

On her love for Japanese wrestling: “Since I was 13, I’ve had a deep love for Japanese wrestling. I was inspired by how the women performed and competed in Japan, and I knew that one day, I wanted to be a part of that world. I loved watching all-women’s wrestling shows, like AJW, and seeing those incredible athletes wrestle in the Tokyo Dome. When NJPW created the IWGP championships for women in 2022, I immediately recognized that I wanted to be part of this new era.”

On her matches in NJPW and the Tokyo Dome: “Debuting at the Tokyo Dome in 2023 was a dream come true. I challenged the reigning champion, Kairi Sane, in my first match back since my departure from WWE. That match held immense significance for me; it was about proving to myself why I was born to be in this business. Winning the IWGP championship allowed me to immerse myself in Japan for a couple of months, reigniting my dreams and goals.”

AEW wrestler Dax Harwood defended tag team wrestling on social media, arguing that it can be the most exciting part of a wrestling show.

Dax responded to a Twitter comment that criticized WWE for portraying tag team wrestling as “mid-card.” He tweeted,

“This. THIS! For YEARS tag team wrestling was top of the card. Then, one man decided he hated it. Fans eventually accepted it because there was really no other choice. The excuse “I have to pay twice as much” is bull*hit. Cash and I worked over 180 matches one year; more than any other wrestler, and we’re still the lowest paid wrestlers on the roster. Even if you doubled our pay, we were the lowest. The wrestlers, as well, bought into this belief. They became selfish and wanted to “hit all my moves”. Tag team wrestling can be the single most exciting part of the show, with the most story involved. It just takes a little bit of creativity.”
