During a recent appearance on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Nic Nemeth analyzed AEW’s approach to The Hurt Syndicate, pointing out that the faction is navigating a somewhat ambiguous space in its ongoing storyline with Swerve Strickland.
Nemeth believes that AEW will need to make a decisive choice about whether the group will remain as heels or shift to babyface status.
Nemeth said, “Even with Swerve, there’s a gray area where he’s not the ‘Yay, I’m a good guy babyface,’ but at some point, you either have to pull the trigger, or you have to make someone decide, or you lead the crowd to decide for themselves. They’re all over. They’re all fighting. Everyone probably wants them to be buddies and in a group that dominates the entire company. And maybe that’s down the line.”
He added, “You don’t have to hit anybody over the head with a hammer that’s spoonfeeding, ‘We’re the bad guys. We’re the good guys,’ but you need to have a little touch.”
During a recent interview with Mike Karolyi, Darby Allin spoke about former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson, who lost the title to Jon Moxley at AEW WrestleDream 2024.
You can check out some highlights from the interview below:
On the impact Bryan Danielson had on AEW: “Bryan, just having him around on a week-to-week basis, he was such a good addition to AEW. He was a guy that you could call upon last second to have an amazing match or do anything. He was such a team player. There wasn’t anything he wasn’t willing to do for the company.”
On Danielson not having any ego: “He had no ego, just a lot like Sting. He saw the big picture. It was good energy to have. To have him missing every week it’s like, ‘Ah, crap.’ Someone needs to fill his shoes, so it’s time for the roster to step up and someone is going to fill them.”
