During a recent appearance on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast, Penelope Ford commented on how she initially got interested in professional wrestling.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On not knowing much about wrestling growing up: “I had zero idea that wrestling was even a thing. My friend was obsessed with the Total Divas and anything wrestling, and we worked together and our manager overheard her talking and she’s like, ‘My sister, her boyfriend is an independent wrestler,’ and got her to like meet and she went to some of his shows. And then one day she was like, ‘Do you want to go to a show with me?’ I was like, ‘Okay.’”
On taking part in a wrestling tryout: “So people were like going through barb wire, there’s blood everywhere, I’m like, ‘This is so f**king cool.’ And then I saw AR Fox and he was doing all these flips and stuff, and I was like, ‘Oh, I could do this.’ And then 800 squats later, I was like, ‘Well there’s no way that I’m not going to go and see what this is like, and then I got in the ring and I loved it. I was like, This is a way to release my anger,’ because I was an angry person, maybe sometimes still very much so an angry human, and I quit cheerleading for wrestling.”
On staying on TV before she underwent surgery: “I was still on TV, thankfully I was still managing Kip, and the Butcher and The Blade, and Bunny. So, thankfully, I still got to manage and then I worked all the way to my surgery date.”
On her mindset before her return: “I feel like I had such an easy thing to do that day and I had never been more nervous to go out. I just feel like I have so much to prove now because I’ve been off for so long and I don’t want anyone to like – you know – forget who I was.”
During the latest edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Tommy Dreamer and Bully Ray lavished praise on Dustin Rhodes’ recent work with MJF in AEW.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
Tommy Dreamer on Rhodes’ promo: “What Dustin said was fire. When you battle addiction and all that stuff, you have been to the lowest of lows, and look at the face of the devil, and [Rhodes] has conquered and he continues to conquer. He’s in the best shape of his life, and also he believes everything he says. Why? Because everything he says is true.”
Bully on Rhodes’ value to AEW: “Dustin can be in a main event storyline, based on the fact that he’s a veteran who understands psychology, who can get a younger heel over. I feel like Dustin was passed over. If you ask me, Dusty Rhodes had two boys — he had Cody and Dustin. Cody is amazing at what he does, but Dustin is the worker of the two.”
