During a recent appearance on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast, Private Party reflected on a television segment where they were attacked by Jon Moxley, highlighting it as a pivotal moment that changed the course of their careers to their current status.
Isiah Kassidy mentioned that without Moxley, they might not hold the AEW World Tag Team Championships today.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On the September attack by Jon Moxley changing the course of their career: “I feel like what really flipped the switch was Moxley. Moxley and me, we had a little issue going on, he messed up my hand. I’ll never forget this, when he messed up my hand, he said, ‘You guys have been here for five years and you’ve did absolutely nothing, consider this a gift.’ I feel like that gift was a wake up call, a wake up call to switch things up and show a different side of Private Party that we haven’t seen. With that being said, I feel like everything has to change. Our look, our demeanor, our attitude, everything has to change. Honestly it’s like a thank you but screw you at the same time to Jon Moxley because without Jon Moxley, maybe we wouldn’t be tag team champions right now. He would have never flipped that switch that we desperately needed. That’s a weird feeling because I’m grateful but at the same time, I’m tight about it. It was a switch that needed to happen and I remember just going back and forth with Quen and thinking of a song that would vibe out to our new attitude.”
On Tony Khan eventually responding to a new music video they made before Grand Slam: “Me and Quen shot the music video right before Grand Slam, paid for it and everything, sent it to Tony. I remember my fingers is crossed, I’m hoping Tony like it. I was in Puerto Rico with my boy Daniel Garcia, I sent it to him, I sent him a little paragraph. I remember day one passed and I’m like, damn. Day two passed, damn. Day three passed, I’m like, it’s over y’all. I remember he texted back, ‘Hey, I love the video, it’s amazing, let’s do it, see you Wednesday.’ Fast forward, we debuted the song on the fifth anniversary of Dynamite. Everything happens for a reason.”
During a recent appearance on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Armando Estrada expressed his admiration for Zilla Fatu, believing he possesses all the necessary qualities to succeed.
The former WWE manager mentioned that he recently reconnected with Umaga’s son and believes he has a promising future.
Estrada said, “He has all the tools. He has the size, the look, and he’s had less than 40 matches, which is crazy. Just to see what he’s going to look like in two years, three years, five years, with some more Estrada seasoning, along with just continuing to get the reps in the ring.”
Buddy Matthews is interested in facing Kazuchika Okada in his native Australia.
AEW Grand Slam 2025 is scheduled to be held in The Land Down Under, and Matthews discussed his plans for the event on the “Downunder The Ring” podcast.
Matthews said, “So I feel like [a match for the Trios Titles] would be cool. Because I do believe that we are probably the best trio on the planet when it comes to that. Our win record says that too. But I feel like what we did with the Trios Titles, when we held them, was probably the most significant they were, and we tried to elevate it by doing the Open Houses and stuff. Like, we tried to put our own little flare on it. But then again, that would be cool to do here, but I feel like matches that people would want to see, and he may have a title then, who knows? I feel like me and Will is a match that people want to see. That would be cool.”
He continued, “But then you go, I think me and Okada here would be awesome. I wrestled him in New Japan. We were the peaks. He’s Japan’s guy, I was Australia’s guy. So, like, let’s do that. That would be cool. Okada vs. Buddy in Australia would be pretty cool on paper, absolutely.”
